Hello.
I've been using AE7.0 Pro for over a year and for the first time, have encountered a problem.
When I open AE, it crashed at the splash screen, saying, Sorry, AE has crashed.. but it gives no explanation why.
I was thinking maybe I need to delete cache somewhere or maybe some pref's but um, without an idea of what to do, I'm afraid to touch it. I have uninstalled and reinstalled but it does the exact same thing at the splash screen.
Does anyone have a suggestion BEFORE I contact Adobe? Thanks-

Hi,
I remember my friend having the same problem and we were able to fix it. Try updating your graphics card on the web. If its nvidia or whatever there will be a download section to download the latest update. I hope this helps,
Matt

Thx for the reply. I had just updated my nvidia driver on my XPS700 and still, no problem solved :(
It's gotta be something simple I'm missing.

i would say move your projects folder, in case its a corrupt project? another option is to try to run AE from a different user account in case something you installed messed up your paths...

Did this happen after you installed a plugin? AFX processes all the plugins at startup and there is a large chance that this is the culprit. Make sure the plugins you are using are compatabile upto that version. Try removing them from the plugins folder and start the application again.

Hold "Shift" key when starting afx till it comes to open window...think that was it
maybe ctrl + shift

Thanks for the replies.
It had messed up 2 days before installing the new graphix driver for my card so it was before then. As for anything corrupt, I uninstalled AE and reinstalled it today but it still does it. I don't know why it would still crash if I have no preferences or anything yet. Oh, and that holding down shift or even shift + ctrl doesn't work.
I'll try to install it in diagnostic mode.. maybe that will work but this is really baffling me.

You could Ctrl + Alt + Shift(hold keys till AFX is done loading) ...destructive...your milage may vary
DID YOU GO FROM ATI TO NVIDIA?????!!!

Yeah that worked but when it asked me if I wanted to get rid of the pref's file and I said, ok.. it acted like it was going to load up but nah, it crashed at the splash screen anyway.
O well, I think its time to switch to Fusion or something. This is a bit of a pain and Adobe has no clue either.
Thanks for the help.

You should manually go in and delete your preferences file. Its in the applications data folder in your document and settings. If you are reinstalling it then try deleting the whole after effects folder in your applications date folder first before installing again.

it seems that this is no gfx card driver issue but try to remove opengl extension file in AE folder or rename it then run..

In my position it was a problem with QUICKTIME.
First time i got this problem then install codecs pack (then i delete them.. all works fine again)
Second, the i UPDATE QUCKTIME.... After instal prev version..again all work...
good luck;)
