pittsburg -- why'd you choose school out there?

what i've learned from being in my school (SVA) is that even tho we've got a top5 comp art department -- it's not what the teachers teach you -- it's what you make of it yourself... i always hated people telling me that, but it's so true -- this industry is sadly not as much what you know, as it is WHO you know -- and i feel very fortunate to have met alot of other people in my industry thru school and school functions...

so if i were you, dont worry about teachers actually teaching you the software (that you can do on your own strangely enough) worry about making friends with film kids and getting good footage, and people to shoot your work for you, and if you're a compositor, make friends with a 3d head so they can give you 3d elements for your comps -- it sounds shady but that's how it's done in the real world -- team effort.

i'm sure you'll do fine in your chosen school just make sure not to isolate yourself from other students!! that's key

Well I chose to go to school in Pittsburgh because thats where I live and I dont have the financial support to just up and leave. Second i know that you have to teach yourself thats what I have been doing but its nice to have teachers that know the software too ya know. I found myself stuck sometimes and I'd have to turn to the message boards for help. Now if I'm paying to go to school then I should be able to get help there. Thats part of the reason I left. Second they hire teachers based on what they will except in terms of saleries. The good teacher get turned down cause they want decent money. My teacher never even heard of 3dmax before she was trying to teach us it. That really doesnt make sense. Also I've tried to start clubs at school to get people motivated and to learn more but everyone in the multimedia program there is lazy and I mean LAZY. I put 100 percent into everything and usually dont give up but I can only take so much especially when I'm paying a shyt load of money.
