Hi everyone,
I only recently found this forum and so this is the first vfx challenge I have entered.
So the big idea....I always find that in the Final Destination films they set up a number of possible causes of painful death and I wanted to carry this theme onto my clip. So I will attempt to introduce a few situations involving a speeding car, a big truck and a mystical entity each of which could do the job...but which will it be.
I have completed a fairly advanced animatic using still photos to get the basic composition of the finale, but am planning on doing a shoot on the weekend to get the car chase and i will probably re shoot the collision to replace the stills with live footage.
If anyone has any comments i would be grateful.
Cheers
Ian

Looks great! Even this one looks almost decent, I really wonder how the submission will look like.
I just couldn't see that entity you told about here? Are there going to be other scenes?

Thanks Madcan,
This clip was a sort of test to see whether the idea and location etc would fit with our runner, which i think it does. I will now film the build up to that finale, which will involve a speeding car and our runner. The entity is not shown in this clip, but it acts to decide the fate of the runner....why does the car stop in the middle of the road...why does the truck not see it....Which is kind of in keeping with Final Destination theme.
I am glad you like it.
Cheers

great approach and the previz looks great!
my only crit is about the distance between the girl and the incident or the car crashed by the truck. it breaks the storytelling as we can't see a relationship between them.
I think it's enough to do this in one of the 1st shots.
keep it up!

Thanks for the comments, I think there will be an overall revision to the edit when I have all the shots completed. I will hopefully source some appropriate music to help the pace.
Motski, I am also a big fan of Andrew Kramer. In fact I probably owe nearly everything I know about AE to his podcasts and tutorials....I am sure he'd be pleased to see you spot his Action Movie Essentials explosions.
I assume we are allowed to use stock footage for this...? I think I read somewhere that as long as you have the rights to use it then its ok.

ya, it looks really cool, but there are also failures in it... some scenes shows the women on the right side and the truck on the left... but then, in an other scene, the women is on the left siede and the truck on the right... that looks strange, maybe you can fix that.

Spartaner, you are right. I flipped the runner to add a bit of variation and to suit the long shot phot I had. An earlier comment felt that the 2 shots are a little distracting, which i tend to agree with, so when i film the final background shots, I think I'll keep the camera on the same side of the road. This way the runner will always be running left to right. The car, coming in the opposite direction will always be moving right to left. I hope this will make it easier to follow, and as you say would be less distracting.
Thanks for the advice.

Hi again,
I managed to find some time to get out and do some filming.
I attach the first clip of the runner leaving the forest onto the road.
Once again, any comments are welcome.

It looks really cool mate. Although it looks a little bit like she floats on the ground at some points.

Yes, at the begining she seems like running on air. But very nice atmosphere mate.

oh boy, I'm in trouble now. If this looks as good in motion as it does in stills, this will be a tough challenge this month.

Really good work man, wonderful mood.
Maybe you can do something with the running girl/esplosion integration.

I have just submitted my movie. I did have a few problems uploading and consequently had to reduce the file size and quality to get it to work. I am hoping to upload a higher res version soon.
I really enjoyed doing this, it has been great fun , informative and a great learning exercise.
Any comments will be gratefully received.
Cheers
