I'm doing a complex roto in after effects, and things would be much easier if I could group-select certain vertices on my mask-shape.
Is there a way to do this within AE??????

absolutely, you just select them - click and drag, and you'll see a box appear. get the vertices inside the box, and they will be selected.
i made a short video tutorial on every roto tool I could think of in AE. Maybe it'll help.

I also made a tutorial showing how to copy Planar tracking roto, like what Motor does. It may be able to help really speed up your roto process.

And, lastly, if you want to track something and apply the data to your mask vertices, here's how you do it.

Hope something there helps!

it may be easier for you to select points in the layer window, rather than the comp window. I believe I explain that in first tutorial I link to in the previous post.
