Media 100, which introduced its 844/X less than a year ago and has since sold 150 systems, is continuing to develop the nonlinear editing/compositing solution, announcing three upcoming features at a press event in New York this week.

As part of a first step in extending its GenesisEngine, the company introduced HDX technology which combines software and a high density HDX PCI card to provide realtime video format conversion capabilities. HDX will be available as a $15,000 option and also provides 3:2 pulldown support and aspect ratio conversion. Formats supported include 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 1035i, 1080i and 480i.

Media 100 also announced its plans to show Version 2.0 — The Finishing Release — for its 844/X at NAB in April. The upgrade is a build-out to the system’s workflow and features enhancements to color correction, editorial, compositing, matte and audio capabilities. The color correction enhancements alone include a new interface and viewer window, along with a keyframe editor, parameter editor and continued support of Adobe After Effects plug-ins.

Xblur is Media 100’s third announcement for NAB. The product can be added to both its 844/Xi ($7,995) and 844/Xe ($9,995) systems and give users 10-bit realtime Gaussian blur that the company says is comparable to a 50-pixel blur in After Effects.
