View Full Version : Wire removal

Hi. Hello to all, this is my first post here. Hope that you can help me with some stuff here.
1. I want to make some wire removal from a scene. It’s just a small package with one wire. I don’t know how to eliminate automatically this wire in combustion. Maybe a tutorial will help me here.
2. I have a scene with a cigar. I have smoke particles over the cigar original movie. I tried to make some tracking here, but with problems, because when the cigar is moving in the scene, the smoke will move like the cigar is moving. The problem is that not the cigar is moving, the camera is moving. How I can track the “cigar” particle smoke without making the impression like the cigar is moving.
Thanks a lot

Hey and welcome to vfxtalk :)
About your second question, sounds like you're applying motion to the particle emitter instead of the whole particle layer, is that it?

yes.... But with particle selected, the tracking button is enabled, and when I select the layer, the track button is disabled. How to make tracking on the layer?
is nobody to help me with the wire problem ?
Thanks.

wireremoval tips are easier when you can show us an example, otherwise it will all just be 'standard' tips anyway

Even the standard tips are ok, because I don’t know from where to start for wire removal.
My clip is filmed with a dv cam for 5 seconds with a cigar package rising in the air. Of course, I rise the package with a small wire. All I want is to remove the wire from the clip.
Thanks

Hi..
Well... I could give you step by step instructions...
.........................But - ya know what? ........................
There ALREADY ARE Step-by-Step Instructions in the FREE Combustion Tutorials from Discreet!! They are on the DEMO CD-ROM, with the software when you buy it, or you can download them here:
http://www.discreet.com/products/combustion/combustion_tutorials.html
These Lessons cover almost all the "basics" and have PDF files with instructions for each lesson, as well as ZIP files with the media, workspace files, and sample AVI/MOV files. Here is the summary of ALL free lessons:
*Intro: Welcome to combustion (PDF - 301 KB) which includes Detailed descriptions of the lessons, terms, the conventions used in the tutorials, as well as instructions for setting the preferences needed for the tutorials
* Lesson 1: Touring combustion
* Lesson 2: Creating Composites in 2D Space
* Lesson 3: Compositing in 3D Space
* Lesson 4: Using Paint
* Lesson 5: Tracking and Stabilizing
* Lesson 6: Keying
* Lesson 7: Using Garbage Masks
* Lesson 8: Color Correcting
* Lesson 9: Animating Particle Effects PDF
* Lesson 10: Working with Paint Selections
* Lesson 11: Animating Layers in 3D Space
* Lesson 12: Working with Motion Graphics
* Lesson 13: Using Scenes from 3ds max
* Bonus! - Combustion for AE users (four more lessons and tips)
You will want to pay particluar attention to:
WIRE-REMOVAL: Lesson 4 EXERCISE 2: Wire Removal using Paint Tools....
TRACKING PARTICLES to a MOVING OBJECT: Lesson 9: Animating & Tracking Particle Effects.
Once you go through these easy tuts, if you still have problems, then you can get better and faster answers!

A already use the tutorials from pdf’s for tracking.
I can do the tracking, but imagine that rocket from tutorials with the tracking particle emitter. Now imagine that not the rocket is moving, but the camera filming the rocket is moving.
If you understand what I’m saying, even if the rocket is not moving the particle emitter will follow the racket in a weird way. This is what I can’t do, to make the particles look real. But I will see that tutorial again, maybe I didn’t see something important there.
On the other thing, I have a little question. Maybe will sound idiot, but…for wire removal I need to “paint” frame by frame? I thought that is an easier way. If I have 5000 frames? I will go crazy…

Thanks
5 sec @30fps NTSC = 150 frames
5 sec @24P = 120 frames
5 sec @25fps PAL = 125 frames
Sorry couldn't resist. :p
Since you camera is in motion painting might be a pain to get it right. You could try and copy a section of the background in the scene over and track ... but that requires more tracking on your part.
Again.. without seeing the shot it makes it hard to guess what woudl be best in your case.

5 sec. is now ...but in the future maybe will be more than 5000 frames. :)
I see that you guys need to see this clip. Ok. I will put here a frame to see how you can help me out.
With tracking..is not possible to make tracking with a layer?
Thanks again

If it's a smooth motion, you should be able to set keyframes on the mask you use... I generally start off with on every 8 frames, then check it through and add one at the 4 frame point if it needs it. I then check every two frames, and add keyframes if needed, and then again for 1 frame....

Just an idea but maybe you should start a new thread in the appropriate forum for the application you use instead of posting AE and Fusion questions on a 6 years old thread on the Combustion forum.
I'm pretty sure you'll get your answers there ;)
cheers,

I think the mods should make the 'search' button 20 times bigger, with a flash animation of some sort and place it smack in the middle of the page, so that people can use it, before posting questions, in all the inappropriate threads :p

You could do a little search taking into consideration that the post you've quoted it's 6 years old, but here it is:
