Hi every body.


Please can u tell me how i can add shadow's to the added objects in Maya 8.5?

I maked a 2d video footage and have added some 3d objects to that footage, now the only problems is how to add some nice shadows so that it looks more realistic


Please can u help me?

You have to make objects that match the scene and then turn of 'primary visibility' of your subject, but keeping 'cast shadows'. Then you render it and then you have a shadowpass.
Then render your subject without shadows on. Then composite it.

Thnx for your answer. It sounds very simple what you say, but there is many beginners lyk me who do not know how to do that, so can u please give me a link with photos how to do that?

I am sorry I could not find any tutorials on this, and its really hard to explain nad I'm a beginner too. I hope someone else can explain it. I have only done shadows on the floor.
Then i took a plane and put it on the ground of the 3dtrack. Then I place my character on the plane and then click on the charactergeometry and den ctrl +A to see the attributes.
then under renderstats I unchecked 'Primary Visibility'. Then I put a light in a good location.
And the some white material on the plane. Then when I render I get white with some black shadows of the character.
