I have brought a comp with the following spec:-

Intel 945
2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor.
4gb Ram (2 x 2 GB)
250GB HDD
GFX 8400 512 MB Graphic Card

The problem that I am having is combustion and After Effects don’t use the entire RAM available to the but they only use 2 GB of RAM.

IS it because it is a 32 bit OS? If yes is there any other way to make it use entire RAM available.

Or is it possible to convert a 32bit OS to a 64 bit OS? :)

windows xp uses only 2gb of ram for apps, you should get a xp64 or just try with the 3Gb switch (that ups the limit at 3gb in exchange to system stability)

unfortunatly, windows 32 is aweful for ram.....the only option is x64 or get a mac (the latter is the better option)

No Windows XP64 can run 32 bit applications. The 32bit applicaitons will still only use 2gb of RAM though.

Applications that are compiled with the /LARGEADDRESSAWARE option, as would be required to take advantage of the /3GB switch in 32-bit Windows, will automatically be able to address 4 GB of virtual memory without any boot time switches or changes to x64 Windows.
