maya is very professional program like 3ds max, today maya is the best in animation, you can do everythink about 3d in maya, i proffer learn 3d with 3ds max (because it has a lot of tutorials and easy than maya) and swich to others like maya, lightwave, houdini.

They are both "professional" tools. Max has slightly better polygonal modeling tools, Maya is better at NURBS. Max is best for architectural work, Maya has the best cloth simulation. Max is more common in game animation, Maya in film & visual effects. I believe that Max still leads in number of seats installed, but Maya is closing. Bottom line: both are excellent tools and both can get most jobs done quite well. It's ultimately up to the skill of the animator.

I'm sure Max and Maya can produce the same results and neither is harder to learn than the other. I am a Maya user but am always seeing good stuff done in max on the forums.
I think it ultimately depends on what part of the industry you want to work in. As a VERY general rule, Maya tends to be the standard software for doing Film work, whereas Max tends to have more of a share of the gaming and architectural markets, for whatever reason, although I believe Maya is creeping into the gaming market now too, but I have never heard of a film being made with Max.

The environment in the first Matrix film when Trinity starts kicking the cop in bullet time was created in 3dsMax too. There are a lot more, but I don't have any links to prove it so you have to take my word for it.
Studios tend to use every tool hat does the job, so pure Maya or 3ds Max facilities are probably a dying breed. Not to mention XSI.

This is actually a fairly outdated "general rule." A lot of post houses have seats of both Max and Maya installed, making it more a question of artist preference more than anything else. Or they use Maya in some departments and max in others (case in point: ILM's digital matte department is mostly Max-based, but it's still mainly based on user preference) And it's definitely true that you can create comparable results in either, it's just a question of the depth of your knowledge. And yes, it's also true that Maya is moving into the gaming market more and more (mostly for rigging and animation), but Max still has much better connectivity with the AAA game engines.

They are both professional tools like everyone is saying. I'd suggest learning both. However with that being said you may want to look into companies around your area or where you want to end up working and see what they use. Then focus on that, it can only help you in the future.
