Hi!
I´m working on an animation with 1024 px Width and 1536 px Height.

This animation will be projected and I will use two projectors, one projector for the floor and the other for the wall.

The floor projection will have the bottom of the animation and the wall will have the top of the animation.

Now, I would like to know what would be the best codec to use, to maintain a good quality performance relation.

I´m performing some render tests with Photo-JPEG codec, and with a third of the size and it seems to have good performance and also a good quality.

I just would like to know if there is a better option..

Any advice regarding this would be very apreciated!! Thanks :)

projector is main factor for quality and you can use uncompress avi or quicktime for good quality

thanks Kyo!
I will try it ;)

photo jpeg? ugh......If you are trying to make a small and yet robust video I would say, if you want a major compression rate with still excellent quality h.264 is the way to go. If you dont care about somewhat large files but still way way smaller than uncompressed (about the same file size as uncompressed SD) I would go with Apple ProRes 422 HQ.

Edit - if you are using h.264 there are some settings and believe it or not auto settings are best for this codec. For non portable but usable videos set the encode slider to high, always use best encoding and 2-pass. Never constrain bitrates with h.264 tho you will get either motion estimation failures and artifacts or excessively large files sizes.

At that resolution tho I would not recommend uncompressed unless you are running it out of a Kona 3 (of course even then I would recommend ProRes 422 HQ)

Hi! Thanks for the explantion!!!
Where can I get ProRes 422 HQ?

I´m using photo jpeg because I was told this is the best codec to use with projections.. but what is happening is:

If I render at full resolution (1536x1024), when I play the video, it´s motion becomes wicked, stops then plays, then stops again then plays another seconds...

If I render at one third of the size, It plays ok, and when set at full screen, quality seems to be ok while playing back.

This codec seems to be suited to this kind of applications.... But I wanted to know more opinions.

Thats what i figured, you want to use H.264 then
