Have you got a storyboard showing the sequence?

we're working on it now. basically its these few character walking into a scene where buildings are constructed real time.
Maybe i should abandon the whole idea.

You mean like a timelapse animation of buildings getting built? Buildings constructed in real time would be, uh, real footage. :) Take a look at some timelapse photograph footage. Rent The Time Machine (the new one). There are some timelapse shots which may give you an idea.

you could have
plates of the exterior concrete, interior concrete, steel girders (building frame), wiring, windows, ceilings and floors,
the selectively mask the different areas, you might end up with ALOT of masks. Animate the masks to make them appear to build the building.

it should be easy once you have all the plates make sure the angles match on all the plates.
good luck
