Well, here's my WIP.. im almost done. I didnt go too nuts with lighting the castle up, as I didnt want to retract from the enviornment. I did this 99% in PS and 1% im maya(fluids for the clouds). Please let me know what you think I could do to add to this.

I hate to have to say this, but there is a rule saying that no 3D is allowed.... (rules can be found here (http://www.vfxtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=300)) - as this is specifically for compositors, we don't want to give people who do 3D as well an unfair adantage.

That said, it's a stunning pic, and I'm sure you can do just as good clouds in Photoshop!

Hey Hugh,
Thanks for the kind words.
Im sorry about the clouds, I shoulda read the rules closer:rolleyes: . changing it is not a problem, but all i did for the coulds(the ones in the sky not in the foreground water) was use a pre-set for fluid clouds so it was pretty much the same as getting a pic.

That's okay - I just thought I'd point it out now, rather than you finding out the hard way later!

In some challenges, we may provice a 3D element, or we *might* specify that you are allowed to make one yourself, but apart from that, it's all 2D (or 3D that your compositing program allows...)

very interesting vision, T_R, very well done

It's difficult for me to envision the building in this environment, since I've seen the actual thing in Princeton. But it definitely is an idea to work with!

May I just note: It seems like the stairway leading to the middle tunnel is a little too large for the scale of the scene. Otherwise, the glowing from the windows and the new environment gives it a very eerie atmosphere

I hadn't noticed the archway - I had to turn my monitor up brighter to be able to see it....

I do like what you've done with this - not what we expected at all from this!

Hey thanks for all the comments,
This is the first time i've posted my work on a site and its nice to get some feedback.

CGguy: Yeah, looking at it now it might seem kinda large for the scene scale..unless...umm actually its a 'Grand Staircase:D ' Thanks for the pointer, I'll try and sort it out:thumbsup:

Thanks all for the positive comments

..ummm.. so can I leave the clouds in?

the clouds....:spew: ...LOL just joking!!, as this is round ZERO the clouds will be OK...but next month when we Officially start the challenges, and there are prizes at stake, we will have to be 'black and white' ;)

So, for this round, the clouds are fine

cheers mate

what have i done :P ...i just didnt want to make someone redo their sky...i mean...its a sky..its not like there is an XWing fighter there ;)

As i stated above, as its a 'mock' round...having fun is the priority, but please TRY and keep 3D out of it :)

Cheers

Paul

PS: March will be totally 3D free!!! :lightsabe
