Been at this on and off for a couple months now... and then ended up getting frustrated and leaving it for a while. The texture is skewed towards the bottom and I can't for the life of me fix it.
Any other advice as always is welcome too.

I'd assume your UVs are off for some reason....
I haven't done any Maya for a while, but I'm pretty sure it has a UV editor of sorts.
Or (probably easier in this case) put a cylindrical texture mapping node on it, and use that in your hypershader network....
(oh, and I didn't look at the scene in Maya, so if you've already done that, I'm afraid I can't help you at the moment.... I might have a chance to look at it in Maya this evening when I get home...)

Yeah I've been trying over the last few days to mess with the UV's, tried a number of tutorials, I don't seem to be getting anywhere :)
So .....
OK all you VFX Challenge-starved people out there in VFX land --
$10US via paypal to the first person that fixes my texture so it's not stretched AND shows me how to do it so a) I can learn how, and b) I can tweak it like up or down on the can etc. or re-texture it.
