I had an opportunity to apply for a job and had to show something pretty quick -- so I put together some of the stuff I've completed from my last semester. Feel free to take a look and critique the work -- good or bad I'd love to hear it.

The piece is a collection of several works combined into a one minute show reel. I'd love to hear if you think it is too short, too long, not interesting enough, etc. etc.

Also, the piece was encoded with the Windows Media codec, version 9 and the file is 5MB.

If it matters, I used AE for the first clip in the piece -- everything else was done in Combustion and 3D work was done w/ 3DSMax.

What type of job were you applying for? I liked the first two bits at the beginning (guy sitting on building) and the second one with the floating particle thingy. There were some problems with the roto on some of the objects on the first comp, but it's a nice concept. Depending on what type of job you were applying for, I would have probably left out the 3D plane bits. I'm not sure why the plane was on a stick and the stick dissolved, because it was all 3d to begin with anyway.

I would only put relevant items that are relating to the job opportunity at hand, ie, if you're going for 2d compositing, there's no need to put your 3D on there.

Anyway, just my two cents.. Hope that helps a little.

It was kind of an all purpose job -- otherwise I would have been able to hone in on just one area. Thanks for checking out the work and giving me some pointers.

Looking at it again I realize that the plane piece is totally out of context... I really wanted to show that I used different layers and that the blurs and tweaking were done in post.

The first shot was part of my portfolio that I used to get into the program I'm currently in. I wish I still had my originals -- and I would have fixed the rotoscoping errors. I believed it was still a worthwhile shot to show at the moment until I either redo it or do something niftier to replace it.

Thanks again for taking a look and sharing your thoughts.

Its a fair question - the music was by Dido - "All you want ". I've now included it in the credits. (Reuploaded it w/ the changes to the airplane shot and the credits.)

I'm hoping to be able to create my own music for the next reel. Taking a music course this summer.
