Hello there, I'm trying to make a transition to shake from after effects, I just want to know :

1. How do you cut a footage in shake into several parts? (in ae, you place the timeslider where you want to cut the footage to be cut then ctrl+shift+d),
2. Can shake also use a black and white image or even just an image for a luma matte? How?
3. In ae if you do motiongraphics there is this attr. of a layer where it automatically putts motion blur on your layer if it is animated. I can't seem to find the the same for shake.
4. Does shake also have a 3d camera/layers like in ae?

Sori to be such a dunce, I can't seem to find these equivalents from ae in the shake manual. I appreciate any help you guys can give me. Thanks

Yossarian!

Hi there

In a similar place myself with moving what I know of AE into Shake. It can definately be a frustrating process. I'm still amazed by the additional number of steps you sometimes need to go to in Shake to achieve the same as AE. And don't even try mographing in Shake!

1) Not sure if it has a split mode. The easiest way may be to just make duplicates of your footage, then trim them on the timeline view into place.

2) Yes, much simpler than AE. Just plug your mask image into the side of the footage node (or downstream into a filter node). If it doesn't have an alpha channel you may need to Color>Reorder one of your colour channels into the alpha channel (ie. rrrr). Color>Invert comes in handy too, as does the Key>KeyChew cookbook node.

3) You can find this option in the transform nodes. If there is movement keyframes slide the motion blur setting to '1'. Theres additional dropdown options. Rotoshapes accept motion blur too.

4) There's Transform>Move3D and Layer>Multiplane that act in a similar way to 3D layers and camera in AE.

I'm only just getting the confidence to do my more complex comps in Shake after sheltering in AE for the last few months. Good luck with it!

Thanks Yossarian, yes I've been trying to make the transiton to shake also, some of the procedures in ae are a bit longer to do in shake. Thanks for the info about my questions, I'll make sure to try out your tips.
