http://www.catoolkit.comEiji Inomoto is the director of Orange Company Ltd. His special focus is creating 3D animation in the classic style of Japanese Anime. He has been working with 3D animation for over ten years.
Since its inception in May 2004, Orange Company has produced CG sequences for a number of Japanese anime productions. Titles they have worked on include the Koukakukidoutai TV series (Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex) and Sousei no Akuerion (Aquarion). They are currently engaged in a film production, based on a popular TV series.
Orange has a team of 8, of which 3 are character animators.
http://www.catoolkit.com/ “The small budgets and short turnaround times of Japanese TV anime production make it a challenging market,” says Eiji. “In these circumstances, maximal efficiency is paramount. One area where we needed to be very time efficient was character animation.”
“We tried out any number of tools and in the end CAT wasn’t just the most efficient, our animators loved using it too. Since our decision [to go with CAT] it has been CAT all the way.”
CAT has made a big difference to the quantity and quality of Orange’s character work. “Even though we are a small production company, since adopting CAT, we have always met our production deadlines. Also, thanks to the great workflow, our animators have more time at their disposal to fine-tune their animations, so the quality of the animation has improved.”
“I think that without CAT the level of quality of our animations would be reduced, or we would be forced to take another approach such as using motion capture, in which case the special characteristics that constitute Japanese animation would be lost.”
