OK, just getting started on this one. I figured I'd work on the flames fist, then go backwards from there. I'm using Fusion's particles to create the flames, so far keeping things in 2D.

the flames are animated, I just haven't done a render yet so I posted a screenshot for the time being.

Too bad you made the comp part of the screenshot so small, otherwise I could have coupled some settings. That looks like really nice fire there. Is it sprite (bitmap) mapped or did you just do an insane amount of single points?

Single points for the emitter, with the shape based on a bitmap image of the rider with a soble filter and some masks to isolate just the parts I wanted.

Nice. It must take some time to render I'd imagine.

actually, I haven't fired up the farm for these tests yet. -So far it's a quick render on the host machine. There really aren't that many particles, just a lot of stuff happening afterwards: like trails, blurs, glows and warps. I hope I have time to get back to the comp -clients are driving me crazy this month.

Here's an update: I haven't done a background yet, but I've got a basic test of the bike in motion. I need to fix the flames over the rider's right shoulder and tweak the helmet reflections, but I'm happy so far.

Nice. I like the subtle way the rider moves. Pretty natural (for someone who doesn't mind being on fire :-) ) In how many layers did you split him up?
Is it all done in Fusion so far? Pretty cool. I hope I have time to do anything at all this time around, but competition will be fierce. (or hot to stay in character)

Thanks,
Yeah, it's all done in FU5. I cut the rider up into Helmet, Body, Ferring, Front forks, Wheel. It's basically a 2D comp, but I put the pieces together in 3D space to create a slight parallax, and for quicker parenting.

 amazing movements! it seems fully 3D.
Perhaps the last movement is a little bit unnatural
