Hi Everyone.
New to this site. I have a reel online and would like some input.
Let me know if you have any problems with viewing, sound, etc.
You will need the latest Quicktime to view it.
I've tried to check out several reels here, but most require a full download and the administrator here "frowns" on that.
Everything on my reel was done in After Effects including the reel itself and sound editing:
(sorry.. had to remove link for awhile.. using up my data transfer quota and I need to show my reel for potential gigs)
:chillpill Thanks, August

Sweet reel, great breakdowns and good pacing! It doesn't stick on any shot too long or cut too quickly.
Among all the things on the reel, I wanted to ask about that plane in the swamp shot, where you had to clean up the dirt. I've done work like that but not with such a dramatic camera change. Was that a patch you were able to track on? And the trees in the background... 2D or 3D?
Nice!

Hi.
The swamp pic was a team effort and is indicated as such in my breakdown, which of course you havent seen yet. This shot is actually several seconds long starting before the plane lands. I had to pull alot of matte tricks out of my hat in order to keep the propeller and the dust hits where the plane bounces a little on landing, yet knock out the rest of the scene to replace with the new ground element. The clean ground element was created by some other artists using a combination of 3d and 2d tricks, and required roto and "fitting" around the edges. The trees are actually 2d trees and the comp is viewed through a 3d maya camera brought into after effects. (I think we used syntheyes to track)
It was the same way we put the dust hits on the monster's feet in the cave. The dust is all practical effects... a black tarp with sand on it and someone hitting under the tarp to make the dirt fly. I keyed out the black and placed the hits in 3d space in after effects and brought in a maya camera to view them in place.
As far as work, I've only been doing VFX for a couple of years. I taught myself after effects and started out doing some (bad) motion graphics, and wound up doing compositing.

great reel. Very strong. If I were you, I'd only leave out some of the bull (or what was it) shots...the only one I'd leave would be the one with the fire. the other ones... well...they're not the best compared to the rest of the reel which is totally magnificent. great job!
