Proffesionals,what would you do in this situation?

Let's say you get promoted to a TD.

After getting down with your boss telling you your new responsibilites,but does not mention anything about bigger salary.

What will your reaction be like?

Would you ask him directly?

Will my salary be bigger?

That is the first question going on in my mind,but is it smart to ask directly like that to your boss?

most promotions involve a raise, but most people are smart with their cash ie if you dont ask for it you probably wont get it unless you are working at a large facility...

i ran a small team of developers and we gave out several promotions and every time we gave the guys raises along with them. it kind've goes hand in hand!

more work + more responsibility = you gotta get paid better!

so i would say ask him directly, if you feel awkward then shoot him a email asking him to clarfiy the situation (but be very nice!)

Oh man, been there... But on the other side of the fence. (I was the boss.)

I was pretty lax with titles, we were a small shop and I wanted everyone to shoot for the stars so when I had an employee approach me wanting a more senior title I was happy to support him on it. Then of course he had the same thoughts as you...

I figured I had just given him a big break by letting him take the new title and he figured he should be paid more.

Uh oh.

After a few uncomfortable days the topic finally came up and we came to an agreement that we both were cool with. (Essentially we had a short trial period were he had the chance to step up to the title.)

It'll depend on your specific situation... Perhaps there are others in the company that have gone through the same experience?

Like Jah said, be polite and considerate to the big picture. Best to share your thoughts with the Bossman and be willing to negotiate.

If your title changes you’re allowed to renegotiate your pay.
If your title changes to a lower title its best to let them bring $$ up.(Cause you F’ed up :rip: )

More work = more money. Just ask how much the new position pays. Or you can find out how much someone would get paid for the same title if they were hired into the company, then go to your boss with that number and see what he will do.
