hey everyone,
as you can tell we recently tweaked the site to have more of a hi-end graphite look and wanted to get your feedback on it... if you have the time please take the poll here and leave your feedback! we are always looking for ways to make vfxtalk a better place to hang out!
thanks

I'd like more simpler website layout. It feels like there is just too much noise on the page and it distracts from the main point, reading the forum.
just my two cents.

I like the color. I do however wish my new posts would clear after every time I visit the site. Or have a clear unread posts button.

tuomasj,
you can go directly to the forums to bypass the home page - is this what you mean by clutter? ie if you head to http://www.vfxtalk.com/forum or hit the forum button in the header it will bypas the CMS...
if you have any other ideas for a layout please feel free to post them here so we can discuss them and implement them :) we have been trying to trim back home page news and add more insight into forum activity...
gottony,
the new posts are time lapse/cookie tracked, we can track them in different ways which may be better (using the database) currently we are using (1) below but we can change this to one of the other options....
This option controls how threads and forums are marked as read.
1. Inactivity/Cookie Based - once a user has been inactive for a certain amount of time (the value of the session timeout option) all threads and forums are considered read. Individual threads are marked as read within a session via cookies.
2. Database (no automatic forum marking) - this option uses the database to store thread and forum read times. This allows accurate read markers to be kept indefinitely. However, in order for a forum to be marked read when all threads are read, the user must view the list of threads for that forum.
3. Database (automatic forum marking) - this option is the same as a previous option, but forums are automatically marked as read when the last new thread is read.

heh - i think i had the same reaction :) dont really understand what they mean... i could try out (3) for a while and see how it goes for people as its supposed to be the new way - but it looks like you have to read every new thread for them to be marked as read?
anyone else have any feedback on tis ? would be appreciated...

could you put a button that says mark read and then check marks on that page for the posts? that might be harder though. oh well. it's not a big issue

i think if you click on 'quick links' in the site navbar under the header you will see a option called 'mark all posts as read' - that should help :)

Haha I was going to comment that it was too green, and then I realized I had disabled my ICC profile.
It's still a bit green, but I like the dark.
