Thank you Marcos, I use a still camera to record video. It is the Canon 5D Mark II with a Canon 24-70mm and a 70-200 prime Lens. It is great and provides a nice range of colors but then you have problems like the rolling shutter which is pretty evident on my shot07.
Anyway, I will submit the 3D planes tomorrow, a very very very basic comp. Just to start the comments with my vfx sup.
So, if you are here, thanks for spending some time on my project. Here I will submit one shot from the above that already have blocking of animation. Still WIP:
Textures
Shaders
Engine Heat FX
Engine Light FX
Smoke Trail FX
Color Correction
Already done:
First pass of Animation
Removing window reflections on mountains and sky.
First pass of sound
Camera Shake
2D Motion Blur
Note: For some reason on VIMEO there is a pause on the sound, I don't know why maybe the sound is clipping. I will check that for next upload.

Hey! I would like to make an update with a problem I'm having with MAYA 2009 or 2010 on a Mac PRO 8 Core with Snow Leopard 10.6.1 and ATI Radeon HD 4870.
The problem is that everytime I move in the timeline or try to adjust a animation key I get ghosting... Does anyone know how to fix this? The problem also happend with Leopard.

I downgrade to Leopard and now is working perfect. My trial version is about to expire but so far I like the Maya 2010. Is working pretty stable.

hey nice work so far....but I dont think you have much time left if your are in term 5 already and there is still lot more work to do. I was in vfs in class 76. What is your class number?
Hi there... Im 3D78Gilberto, so I went to you grad actually. Wich one was your project????
Well, it is true that I don't have to much time, but I already have more than what you just saw.
But yeah, term 6 now is pretty scary. Brent told me to submit everything by november 30 and then like he affectionately say will start the pixel f%k%ng to catch every single detail.
I have my MID Term 5 presentation here, it is also old because I fixed a lot of animantion and incorporated the shaders on it. But it will give you a better idea.
Wich stream are you ? And where are you from? Thanks for watching.

just some suggestions if I may....your shot 4 (above clouds) should be removed or changed to something below clouds, maybe birds eye view of the city because it looks inconsistent with the Grouse Mountain shot where the planes are flying well below clouds. In fact they are flying from below to above camera. Also you might have some scaling issues with the Vancouver Art Gallery shot. I think they are flying in too low compared to the other shots (compare 44 sec and 46 sec of the video). I dont get the point of shot 18.
I am in VFX stream, here is my reel if it jogs your memory. I am from Toronto.
Yes, you are right, actually I remove that shot and I'm going to use a greenscreen I did in the photo studio at VFS. http://blueworkspanama.net/etc/greennuke.jpg the screen direction is wrong and basically everything is wrong at the moment LOL.
The Art Gallery you are also right. I fixed after term 5 presentation thanks to Brent comments with this http://blueworkspanama.net/etc/scene11.jpg it is actually a little bit smaller now.
Shot18 it is just because I love it hahaha... This is not only a vfx reel but also I would like to showcase my basic cinematography skills. I love photography and I like to put my shots in there. Also I wanted to have high contrast between the Highest and the Lowest parts of Vancouver. Going from The Vancouver Lookout Tower to the streets of Grandville. So the Shot18 is basically the link between them even tho they are not in that particular order. Also I was trying to have strong silhouettes against the sky.
I did the sound design, filming and editing. But it is still a work in progress. I hope that when Matt and Rob get their hands on it will improve much more.
About you reel, I remember it perfect and I like the invisible effect. I'm doing something like that for the heat distortion of my planes with Maya particles and nuke.
Thank you very much for your time and I hope to have your comment later on when I submit the 4.0 version of the reel.

A note on the sound design: it'd be awesome if you could make it to an airshow for reference. Fighter jets flying by that low would be so loud it'd knock people off their feet. I think visuals like this are very dependent on the audio that goes with them. You might even be able to get some decent audio from a YouTube video of fighter jets flying by low. I'm looking at VFX 04 and VFX 09 in particular.
Also, for the visuals, fighters that low would kick up dust (I realize final comp is a ways off), and most likely cause your camera operator to shake a bit, and cause any innocent bystanders to jump for cover, most likely. They'd at least jerk their hands to their ears! I don't know what your timeline is, but if you had time to shoot a few actors on greenscreen (using that same daylight), you could put them in VFX 04 and 09 and have them react to the fighter going over.
I'm glad to have you around here Tom. Thank you. and you are right.
It is funny you mention the Air Shows, because that was a suggestion one of my mentors told me 2 days ago. Before this, all my references was movies and military videos. But now I realize that if they are going to be flying in downtown there should be more hand-held shots with cellphones. But my cameras are more cinematic style.
I guess if I have the opportunity again, I will make more realistic cameras and introduce a guy with a cellphone and his POV.
And for the sound, we have a sound guy that seats with us in last term, I'm only using like 5 plane shots that are not f22. He told me he had lots of sounds. So right now this is only a layout for him to know whats the feeling and the rhythm that I'm looking for or should I say hearing for.
Well for vfx04 I hope that with the new change of putting them higher will make more sense. Like I said here http://blueworkspanama.net/etc/scene11.jpg and I might get them a little bit higher. What do you think?
Because in that shot I didn't have any actors to cooperated, just my friendly birds. I was lucky enough that one guy looks back but that was it. There is almost no chance at all to re-shoot because the weather change here in Vancouver. And the greenscreen will be a good approach but I still have a loooooooottttttttttt to do and only 6 WEEKS to submit the final project. Ahhhhhhhh! haha
As for VFX09, I'm going to remove the people. I already have a clean photoshop plate for that shot and because there is no camera movement, its going to be very easy to replace. Just a quick roto of him and that's about it. The idea is to remove anyone that is not an actor from that shot.
Right now my priority is to get the animation done (for monday) and continue with the particle work for the heat distortion, smoke, fire and trails of the engines. Also I'm trying to create the moisture effect this planes get when they turn to fast or break the sound barrier. Especially for the shot in the mountain (VFX02).
So far it has been a fun journey to make all this, I put together a quick behind the scenes that it is going to be complete with the post production later. Check it out when you had time. Once again, thank you very much for your time.
