create a camera in 3d at current ghost position? -
July 23rd, 2008, 09:52 PM
Hi all,
was wondering if I can create a camera or slave an existing camera to my current ghost position in 3d space (ghosting, that's what they call it in counter strike don't know what they call it in Nuke.) You know what I mean? I navigate in 3d and frame my shot in the viewer, only to realize I need to create a camera and then bring it into the same place and try to get the same frame. Then to change the camera's position, I have to pull it's little red, green and blue windvane's and toggle in and out of the 2d view to see the resulting frame. When I'd rather just be the camera. So my movements would translate the camera's movements. Is this possible?
thanks,
jayson

Everybody's asked for it, hasn't happened yet.

We use to have that in some versions (can't remember which ones) in the D2 times, at some point it was removed and never got back. That has already been requested and it will probably return at some point.

Eh? Unless I'm missing something, this is available. Just select your camera (or create one first, then look through it) in your viewer, and click the button right next to it, which will look through the selected camera. you can then use your x,y,z positions in your controls to control it?

aruna, it's funny every time I see the mummy posters around manhattan your name pops into my head. And in six months it'll be the star trek posters. You market yourself well.
anyway, aruna, thanks for the tip. it's not exactly what i meant but still useful. I was looking to navigate the camera in 3d space like you do in a first person shooter, using the mouse and keyboard. That's what I meant by ghosting the camera. but like michael and diogo said, it ain't happening. So till then I'll use your way with animated translate and rotate so I can use the curves to postion.
thanks for the replies guys,
jayson

Like I said it was removed, and replaced by the behavior you see now, since for some 'lock' camera shouldn't allow you to change the camera..
Let's when that returns, it was pretty handy.
