D2 Software releases new version of its nuke compositing & effects software - March 6th, 2004, 06:33 PM

D2 Software, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Digital Domain, announced the availability of a new version of its Academy AwardÒ winning NUKE Compositing and Effects software. “Version 4.1.22 runs faster and more efficiently than previous versions by supporting multi-processor rendering and internal flipbooking,” stated Bob Kilduff, Director of Corporate Development.

Version 4.1.22 includes speed, efficiency and workflow enhancements

NUKE's support for multi-processor rendering means that users on “dual proc” machines now can render out scripts “at least twice as fast, ” said Kilduff. “Furthermore,” he added, “NUKE's new automatic disk caching mechanism further speeds up the workflow by allowing users to stay inside the application while creating and viewing flipbooks.”

Other key feature enhancements available with the new release:
Drag and drop parameter linking for easy application of tracking and other data
Support for new compositing blend types
Faster openGL previews in the 3D workspaceâ€*
The latest versions of IRIDAS's Framecycler Professional for high-performance digital media playback

"This new version demonstrates D2 Software's commitment to continue to push this industry leading product and deliver production proven improvements to its customers on an ongoing basis," said Brad Call, President of D2 Software.

D2 Software is now focused on getting ready for the next NUKE release at the 2004 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) exhibition. That release is likely to include support for The Foundry's new OpenFX (OFX) plug-in standard, plus "a few other surprises." Come by booth SL5211 for a demonstration of the latest version and see how it has been used in a real production environment.

Also, be sure to check out the NUKE discussion forums on the Web that have sprung up as well, including http://nuke.throb.net, http://www.fxguide.com and http://www.vfxtalk.com.
