Fusion won't create keys - May 4th, 2009, 09:37 AM

Here is some problem I've had a bunch of times already with Fusion 5.2 and 5.3: Fusion WON'T create a key if I move the centre of a Polyline mask.
I can move the centre- it wont create a key.
I can CLICK on Center and say SET KEY and it won't create a key.

If I move my Polyline around it will create a key for it.
So basically is this just a frustrating bug or can I lock the animation feature somehow or something? Is there any way to fix this? Closing and reopening fusion sadly DIDN't fix the problem so I feel a bit helpless.

Hi DNStuff.

You have to keep in mind two different approaches here.

Polyline masks are by default animated in Fusion.
(Unless you click on "right click here for shape animation" and explicitely remove the animation from the polyline)

Center controls (as basically all other regular controls in Fusion) are never animated by default.
So if you want to animate your mask's center you first have to right-click on the center and select "animate" (or modify with->XY Path or whatever suits you...;-)).

Have Phun.

Eric.

Thanks a lot for the long reply explaining all this. Yet I've to admit I believe it IS indeed a bug. I already animated my centre and it even has 3 keys already but it won't create any more keys for the Centre whatever the reason is while it creates Polyline keys.
It won't even add a new Center key if I click on Center in the Polygon Settings and click on Set Key.
Neither does right clicking on the center and saying Polygon: Center- Set Key in the view work. I am just REALLY confused because I already got 3 keys animated so yeh the only solution I can come up with is: Bug :C

I'm sorry to say, but I don't believe this is a bug,
since animation splines are actually quite stable and reliable...;-)

Please check the following:
In the view, right-click on your path and select "Path1:Polyline".
On the top of the flyout menu you should see some options:
Click Append, Draw Append, Insert and Modify, Modify only and Done.

Could it be that by any chance your spline is set to "Modify only" or "Done"?
If yes, Fusion will not create any keys.

Also, in the same menu there's an option "current time only" which will restrict editing of the animated value as well.

If all this does not help, please send an example comp which shows the problem to tech-at-eyeonline.com or to my private mail address, so that we can have a look at what's going on.

All the best & Have Phun.

Eric.
