John - LBL Title Project - September 23rd, 2008, 07:06 PM

The Title Project is the first project of the year. We are given 3 weeks to complete a 5-7 second intro ID for our demo reel using the topics covered in the first and second week. We were introduced to Maya, Nuke, and Boujou.

Prior to this project, I had experience using Maya to model but everything else was new to me.

Many thanks to Mark for literally and figuratively showing me the light, Gillian for valuable feedback, and Lost Boy graduate Dalen who happen to drop by during our initial idea pitch and made a suggestion that I think hugely improved my concept.

Comments and feedback welcomed.

Hey John,

Nice work! I like it! Simple but good!
Try to frame by frame find something weird, but I can't!
Good job!

glad to see the new project being posted.

nice and simple idea... great mark-styled (haha j/k) comp
did you hand animate when the font flys and stick to the wall? or was it by dynamics?

keep up the good work!

Thanks Esat, thanks Hsuan-yi. And yeah Andy, Mark wrote the Nuke script for the compositing. All the letters were hand keyed, except the ones that bounce off. Those started out as rigid bodies flung at the wall, then baked and then I keyed them to react more like hand thrown items and not the crazy thing Maya does with rigid bodies.

Frame 139 to 142. This caught my eye. There needs to be better integration with that letter "d" flipping around by the wind resistance. Currently it jumps a few frames in position. Its located near the bottom of the frame.
