Smile I NEED DEVELOP A BIG STORM ON THE SEA SCENE - September 2nd, 2009, 08:24 PM

Dear Colleagues
I've seen a big storm on the sea with high waves in 2 recent Harry Potter movies and Pirates of the Caribbean, and have seen progress in the trailer of the movie 2012 when a large wave exceeds a mountain, I want to achieve and compose the animation of a big storm on the sea with huge waves and sparkle to break an object, stones, etc etc, If any of you working in a VFX company and knows this technique, would be of great help to many animators

I saw the making off as the company DIGITAL DOMAIN performed the visual effects scenes, but does not explain the step by step from the scene, thanks for the help

Hi Alberto i don´think anyone give you a tutorial, guys working in vfx are tied to contracts and can get sued or fired if are doing stupid things like tutorials in forums.

Also studios don´t reveal secrets or piplines, its like shooting in your on foot don´t you think?...and for free

Usually you star from a basic sea and keep adding stuff from foam to mist, and can involve things like spray sim in realflow.

Maya have some presets including a stormy ocean ,but just a start.

The big issue its interaction splashes and mixing things from several sources in comp

Dear Colleagues

I know very well that what I am asking for is too much and VFX major studios keep their secrets, I drive, Maya and 3ds max with other software like Realflow and compose my scenes with fog etc on After effects, this is a great challenge to animate a great storm at sea, my query on the forum was to ask for guidance only, as ILM or Digital Domain do not think give us your knowledge jajajajaj thank you very much for sharing my consultation .I appreciate the link you sent me is very helpful for me
