Nodes for animating still images of clouds? - March 5th, 2010, 02:36 PM

Hey guys,

I'm doing a scene of snowy mountains with a sky that has some fairly prominent clouds. I wanted to animate them slightly drifting.

I've tried cornerpin to fake parallax but its not enough. I was wondering if there were any nodes in Nuke that would help me animate the clouds in a more believable manner.

Separating the clouds from the background is not really an option in this image due to a dramatic gradient in the sky present in the source image.

How do you guys generally go about animating clouds in a still image if needed?

Update: I'm messing around in Gridwarp and it seems to have some potential. Any tips for using it? Still open to suggestions of other options.

You could maybe maybe try using a noise node with the outputs as forward into an idistort node.

Might not be exactly what you're after but it might be a decent start.

Interesting, I'll definitely try it out. Thank you.

Gridwarp worked incredibly well however by itself.

Using bicubics (part of the Card Node) is a good way to do this as well, as you can add more divisions where necessary.

Yea Gridwarp allows addition of more divisions as well. But I'll check out the card node as well, haven't tried it yet. Thank you.

And I didn't know that about Gridwarp. Wataaaah! ^_^ Trading punches. . .

I guess what I should have said is that Bicubics allows you to add more divisions selectively at the places you choose, not just globally.

The Tahl goes over it in this video from one of The Foundry master classes posted on their site.

Why not have a try with "Idistort" node?
