Notorious Pictures Selects Primatte Keyer for Pop Music Video Post-Production - January 21st, 2004, 02:32 AM

Red Giant Software today announced that Notorious Pictures selected Primatte Keyer in making music videos for the popular bands, Pacifier, Telepopmusik, and Train. The versatile Adobe After Effects plug-in allowed Notorious Pictures to reduce greenscreen work by 80%.

“These music videos created interesting technical challenges for keying, because we either integrated multiple camera angles or digital images with no on-site shots taken. With Primatte Keyer, we were able to crank out the keys in one-fifth the amount of time we required previously. This is a huge time savings for elaborate projects,” said Brent Bonacorso, a Director at Notorious Pictures.

Primatte Keyer is used by editors, effects artists, and film professionals. The software, which works on both Macintosh and Windows platforms, enables artists to extract keys from any color background for compositing. Users can choose foreground/background areas of an image and selectively reduce edge spill and transparency problems—all directly in the After Effects composite window.

“Primatte Keyer proved to be an amazing tool. We needed a solution that would get the job done quickly and efficiently so that we could move onto the next complicated stage of compositing. I don’t know of another tool on the market that is able to selectively remove the green better. Using the Magic Wand tool I am able to isolate up to 12 different shades of green. This was especially helpful with the Telepopmusik digital photos where the greenscreen noise was a challenge.”
