Project per scène or project per comp? - September 4th, 2008, 02:12 PM

I learned, both from experience and from others telling me, that usually you'll want separate files for anything in the world. If one gets corrupted or whatever can happen to it that's not supposed to, you only got to fix one.

But with up to 10 (and for big people/big projects probably a lot more) comps for a scène, I begin to see a plus in grouping same scène comps in one project.

What do you guys think/do?

avi + m2t -> Vdub + DGIndex -> AE CS3 -> x264 -> Hell On Earth

I only ever have one shot per script (or project if thats what it's called in AE). Keeps everything more manageable, and, as you said, safer.

It is true that AE files can get corrupted. Especially if you are working on earlier version (sour memories lol) You can use any of both methods. For example if you decide to have only one project file then make sure you save different versions every major update (ProjectName_V1.1, ProjectName_V1.2, ProjectName_V1.3) and so on. My preference is to have different projects files. Helps me keep everything organize and less clutter inside the AE projects.

One project per shot, my rule.
