Stormtroopers underwear.. - February 3rd, 2009, 05:45 PM

I did quite a bit of StarWars stuff ages ago and have recently come back to it.

I thought I'd remake my clones/stormtrooper model i did years ago. This time making him a properly rigged character, to work better with animation.

So i have started with just the basics, skinning a tight body suit onto a full but basic skeleton of bones. Here's what i have so far (you can even see me working on the texture as it rendered!)..

More to come very soon..

The next progression. Starting to add the outfit to the bones, the chest is a little too high and i don't like the shoulder movement at the moment, but progressing all the same..

Here we go, the update. I've fixed his shoulder pad as it was fixed wrong. Now i've attached it how you'd have to in real life. I think it looks better. I've also taken advantage of the colours in the new films. So i've done the guys at the end that can't find yoda, and collect Darth from Mustafa.

More coming soon, fix his hands and maybe I'll even put him in a proper shot..

Finished the model, got his hands working and gave him a room to stand in..

I'm still working out what are the best GI settings.. Maybe I'll add a ball to this version, as he just looks bonkers now?!

Taking a little step to the side i thought I'd try out my new clone in a static shot. I downloaded Ian Fosters Jedi council room.

I updated the model and made my trooper a 501st. The ones that went to the Jedi temple with Vader, to kill the jedi.

Then this is what i made..

OKay, without a ball it's pretty rediculous. But it's very good modelling/rendering. Very nicely done. I wish I was as good as you are!

So i know i haven't done anything on this for ages but i need to dust it off and get him up and running for a little project I'm involved in. So i upgraded him a bit (the background a lot) and put him through a new render.

I have a couple of things I'm changing about his armour as he was never meant to be seen this close up. I've also still got to add a bit of code to his feet.

Here is a better quality clip, now with softened shadows and scene motion blur.

New clip..

Now with the click of a switch i can make my trooper into one of the other ones I'll need soon. All rigged and ready to go.

Here is a little example of the three characters..

p.s. with a mysteriously missing droid if you look closely..
