This forum is for users of Digital Intermediary tools such as Lustre and Scratch

im doing research on my dissertation topic "digital intermediate"
i need help , please reply and add ur valuable inputs
What is meant by Digital Intermediate?
How did this field begin? history of DI.

Hey guys, so I shot all the footage for my thesis this last weekend using a RED. It is going to be a spec commercial and some shots have vfx and some don't. I transcoded all the .r3d's to MXF's to work in avid for offline. I'm still sorting through shots and creating my subclips...still not near...
hi i wanted to convert my netire premiere timeline (about 1h.30m) to the mkv for high res playback on normal systems. my res is:1920*1080
.in what software pack i should do this.:radar: and what are the conditions.!? :magnify:
p.s:i'm not sure this section is the right one for putting this Q so...
i have a whole movie ..that in every cut and stabilize the edit people..done something wrong.and we have 2-3 frame vibration on cuts on both sides..:rip:
how can this be fixed.!? i mean can pixel clean stabilize operation do it.!? :(
is it any better or grain reducing if i scan my 35mm in 4k, and do all color corrections and effects then downscale it to 2k for printing.!?
let's say we have a fine system..then what would be the best realtime 2k player software.?!:D
Can anyone give me a ballpark figure on how much it would cost to grade a 100 minute feature w/ an experienced colorist using Apple color?
Lets say I use a Red One camera, 2k resolution, average number of edits, in the Atlanta, GA area.
Any info would be greatly appreciated,
now that DaVinci resolve is now at 995$ (full version, software only, on mac),
do you think it will start a new price war for DI systems?
if you have already a decent mac you just by the software and maybe a small panel (like tangent wave) and can do now full DI work.
anybody work on...
i've recently scanned some 35 mm scan on oxberry scanner..
and format is 12 bit tga...
the scaner operator said we need to open the diafragm a bit so we do not loose any black data..(he was a professional and old ;) )
and this is my 1st neg-scan
anyway; my composting program is nuke.. ...
Im having a bit of a head-scratcher here. I got some 35mm telecine'd into DPX files, but the company made a right balls-up of it. There were frames skipping about all over the place, and repeat frames throughout. I thought at first it was a playback or rendering issue, but then went through the...
With the advent of the upcoming Lord of the Rings Blu-ray release I've been casting some thought on the master source for the three films.
The Fellowship of the Ring did not follow a true 100% digital intermediate path. About 70% of the film was scanned, colour timed, visual...
I know this is kind of a beginner question but can anyone help me with the basic DI workflow?
I am supervising a process of taking 2K animation files and getting them to film.
I don't expect you to explain the whole shabang in one go, but I wounder if there is a website or publication...
For those looking for infoirmation on LUTs the following may be of interest:
There are also some free LUTs to download here:
And info on the LUT Builder software and Hubble here:
I am in the process of evaluating online systems, ideally something with 2k+ DI capabilities, proper luts etc.. and the ability to do RT Color Correction.
I want something like smoke/lustre combo, but I can't afford $500,000 worth of gear, and the RT desktop DI is getting very close to being a...
I am getting very close to purchasing a 2K playback system. In reality most of our content will be 1920x1080 stereoscopic DPX for dailies playback. We will not be doing any color grading at first but will possibly getting into a primary grade at a later date but very sure we will never...
I make a test to rebuild a m-scope source from arriflex-d21, I digitalized on flame twice flow with a vtr HdcamSR, on 4:4:4 with 1920x1080 resolution(one on serial1 and second on serial 2 ) , now I need to combine this on one frame with a 1920x1440 resolution.
My capture is in...
Good day to everybody!
Does anyboby use pregraded and basicly colorcorrected shots form DI as input? According to documentation it is possible to create gizmo which contains custom LUT co-related with Luster, for instance. I would be thanksful for every bit of info!
This next video is part 2 of 3. It covers looking into the machines that we own 2k/4k film scanners and recorders.enjoy.
Hello Film Makers,
I wanted to share with you a look at the equipment necessary to make the digital intermediate process possible. I could talk a lot, or just show you under the hood. that what these videos will be.
part 1. a few shots of the traditional film equipment leading up to our...
I'm looking some tips about how to make a good/low cost color grading system
for commercials and HD Tv or short movies (that we are working on)
Lustre, DaVinci, and Avid solutions are too expensive for us and the Scratch or SpeedGrade, well , don't know how that works.
What is the...
I have some workflow questions regarding EDLs and image sequences.
How does one go about creating an EDL for onlining DPX files converted from lower end acquisition formats (P2, XDCAM EX, DVCAM etc), from a timeline from for instance FCP?
In what way should one convert the footage to...
I'm getting into the DI world a bit more and am noticing the array of professional applications out there... Which one's are most prized to be known right now? (and for the future?)
There is Apple Color, Lustre, Nucoda, DaVinci 2k and Resolve, Scratch, Pandora...etc etc etc...
