VFX 403 [WIP] - Cib
Place holder, I hope to find time to give this a shot. Downloaded both peaces of footage this evening, played around with them a bit. It was pretty easy to work with, I tried several ways of creating variation so the people and actions were not so repetitive. Other than chaining the star frame on the different clips to create variations in action I tried some color correction to vary up the colors a bit as well.
I am now trying to decide what kind of scene this footage fits in best.
Ok, looking at the footage a sporting event or a consort makes the most sense with the footage provided.
I have been playing around with working the scene in Blender, I am enjoying the results. I will probably do at least part of the shot/shots in Blender.
Ok, here is a really rough story board of what I want to do. 7 shots in all, though not all VFX shots (is that ok?). I hope I have not bit off more than I can chew...
I have my stadium made up now, the stage and a few other things still need some tweaking, but it is populated. I believe I have 3,500+ repetitions of the provided stock crowd, things are getting very big for my old comp, I hope I don't have to cut back to get better render times...
I hope to shoot some footage of the band today.
Also, on a side note. I was watching America Has Got Talent last night and I realized that a reality contest show would be another ideal setup for the provided footage. If anyone hasn't decided what they are doing yet I think it would be much more attainable than a stadium.
Ok, I suppose it would be good to explain my story board now.
0. Two people sit on a couch watching a recording of a rock consort on a cell phone.
1. Long crane move of stadium and crowd, lights moving all over the crowd, crane down to stage.
2. Rock Star on stage rocking.
3. Rock star on jumbo-tron with crowed partially visible
4. Behind Rock star on stage, crowed is rocking out.
5. Two people again, only this time in the crowed recording with cell phone.
6. CU of sell phone screen in hand. Title: "Life looks better on a 1inch screen" or something.
Particularly the close ups of the "two" I will endeavor to use as little VFX as posable but match the look of the VFX and Non VFX shots. Hopefully they will be somewhat indistinguishable.
Hmm... Double post.
I have shot the band in green screen now. I am now going to do some keying in Shake.
Most of my rough edit and temp FX are done and I have a few of the 3D bits rendered out with only one left to go (Shot # 1). Now to get the cellphone shots and commence with Compositing!
I did the composite of the shot you can see in the screen capture above this evening, I am quite happy with the results.
I am setting the big shot (longest with most people in it) up to render overnight now and then will be off to bed.
Working on the jumbotron right now. Looking at photos, they seem to come in all shapes and sizes, some are very complex, some very simple. So it seems pretty hard to go wrong here.
I based mine on the Pengrowth Saddledome's Jumbotron in Calgary.
(also in the non VFX world I just received word that 2 of my films have qualified as semi-finalists in the SAICFF, very exited around here)
Ok, I have now finished compositing the final touches on the shots I have.
I realized I was editing on a 30fps time line rather than a 24fps time line (wile exporting everything at 24fps) so now I have less time left over than I thought I did. So now I am not sure whether to shoot shot #0 and #5... Choices, choices...
I am really close to completion. Where/when/how does the submission process work?
going really nice...
wish i could participate on this one but.....no time for now...keep going
Thanks for the encouragement Georg and krizard.
I thought I was done last night, but my brother pointed out a spelling error so I will fix that today. Other then that I am finished!
we will open a thread for submissions in the challenge forum at the end of this week - which will be closed at the end of play on 30 Sept.
