looking nice here. but just a suggestion on the modelling...think it will be better if u had eyes socket and seperate sphere for the eye ball?makes your unwrap and texturing more easy here.:)
i don think that is possible to acheive the kind of write-on effect that AE can do on combustion.
the only thing that i can think of on combustion is to animate a mask layer along the text.
