I'd rather be a non-starving artist than being able to purchase a starving artists edition. There's less pricey and free alternatives if you can't afford Nuke.

Qualitywise it should be the same but I'd shoot in 5K. More space if you need to zoom in and it's easier to downscale than to reshoot in higher resolution.

Some framerates are not supported in 5k...

Ask your editor to dpx it through color. Or do it yourself, quite easy(if you have acces to FCP and Color): line up your shots in an FCP sequence, save, send to Color, in Color's Setup/ Project...

Png compression is probably the one with the best filesize/quality ratio. I don't think you'll get such small files like with H264 though.

Jpeg200 does support Alpha Channles too. Note that not all ProRes codecs support an alpha channel, only ProRes 4444.
