I agree on Star Trek - I'm not even a fan of the franchise and I loved watching that film. It will be interesting to see how people's opinions change/stay the same once Avatar starts playing on DVD...
Hi Michael
You will need to use a combination of luma-keying and rotoshapes to get the job done. Colour-correcting the footage may help you get a cleaner matte but for certain portions...
I definately agree that fundamentally there are always stories that need to be retold, resold or made more palatable to a modern audience but the great ones find a way of bringing something new to...
Any of the 10 best film nominations that aren't also recognised in either the adapted or original screenplay catergory are kind of invalidated in my mind. Avatar is guilty in this area.
Like...
Most definately :)

I can't wait to get started on these. Thank you!
I beleive there was some useful discussion of this in the fxguidetv episode dealing with the Philips Carousel Advert.
I also remember a really good one in Zodiac (Gylenhal walking through the...
Unfortunately I don't have much say over the workflow and yeah I'm finding Shake very sluggish working with them so have gone over to Nuke.
I've also discovered that the files I've got at the...
Unfortunately it can't handle b44 at all.
Thanks, I'll get them to re-output using one of those.
I've been given an exr sequence I'm to do some work on that has been converted to exr from r3d by After Effects. The sequence will load correctly in After Effects but Shake will not display anything....
Thanks for that link Aneks. I saw Goats at the LFF and enjoyed it a lot. I thought the story of the first earth battalion unit itself was more compelling than the relationship between Clooney and...
Just a couple of shots (they're on my reel). One in the housing estate another using the same footage as yours but for a last minute insert.
Hope the film does well.
Hi George
I liked your reel. Funny that both you and I worked on Fifth Wall!
Good luck
George
I want to see that film!
Emmerich: "It [Vfx] give's you a new freedom and I want to use that...to the max"
Some VFX featurettes have been released that are fairly interesting (mainly for quick glimpses of whats running...
Saw this on the Dneg twitter. Very helpful advice direct from the recruiters' mouths.

The trailer came out and there's some really nice shots here. Dneg and Lipsync post.

The early base shot at 00:45 deserves a 1080p...
Hey Colin
I liked your reel but in terms of making the next one more successful I would suggest labelling yourself as something more specific than vfx generalist. I know from my limited experience...
Great reel!
I'm assuming the plane taking-off in the Whiteout shot was real? If so could you tell me a bit about the techniques you used to intergrate and envelop it into the CG environment and...
I love the new design! The only thing I miss is the recent posts window.
edit: nice one!
Hi Daniel
There's some nice work there.
Just some suggestions..
On the compositing side it would nice to see one of the three keying exercises you've done implemented into a working shot....
Sure thing. And if you've got anything a bit more intense I'll do that, too!
Hi Toby
Are there any paint or roto jobs left? If so I'd love to do some work for you.
Thanks
George
This didn't happen at my cinema but it sounds like an interesting idea and a nice way of bringing an audience together.
I thought the film itself was great fun, too. It had a zany sense of humour...
