It looks like a good list. Those are the ones I always come across.
I was planning to get "digital compositing for film & video", anyone have this book who could comment on it?

Frost: That does sound like a good idea (and welcome to the site!)

We (well, I) are thinking of adding a reviews section to the site, where people can submit their own reviews. This would be done in a very similar way to the tutorials section (see this thread).

The review section would be for books, pieces of software, or anything else that someone felt the urge to review!

I recommend a couple older books as well:

    The Five C's of Cinematography

    Painting with Light

If you want the most for your money regarding books on compositing I highly recomend Digital Compositing for Film and Video by Steve Wright.
I've been working as a compositor on Flint and Flame for 3 years and I was surprised how much I learned from this book. Every compositor should have one!

And nice forum btw. Been looking for a while for a cool place to hang out in.

    a small review...

I bought Digital Compositing in Depth a while back (a little over a year) and recently went back through it... and I suggest that anyone considering this book get "The Art & Science of Digital Compositing" instead. There's more bang for you buck and it'll put you on your feet much faster than Digital Comopositing in Depth. But if you have unlimited funds (like i know we all do ;] ) i guess there's no harm in getting both...but everything you really need to know will be in "The Art & Science of Digital Compositing"
If you have the will to succeed, you will succeed.

    I definitely agree.

I myself have both books, and The Art and Science really is about the "art and science" of compositing. In Depth is just what it sounds like , but 40% of its bulk are duplicate tutorials for five different programs (5 isn't the real number probably, but I don't want to check). One of the greater aspects of In Depth is the demo software it comes with, though.

The good thing about TAaS is that it con never really become outdated (like ID can) because it focuses on the technique and approach to working with shots while the other explains how the software is used to accomplish what the book says needs to be done.
    Still waiting for the future?

I have a book that came out last winter,
"Digital Cinematorgraphy & Directing" if you're interested.

Working on "LightWave 8 Killer Tips" and "Inside LightWave 8" at the moment.

Thanks! See you around the forum.

Thanks for the tip Dan! Not heard of that first one...

Not a LW user, so the other two aren't really as much of interest to me, but that first one looks interesting

    Sure thing.
The 'digital' series from New Riders is great because it's non-platform specific.

    They have more planned.
