This thread is been dead for quite a while. Well, its time to bring it back to life.

I just received my copies from Amazon:

Digital Compositing for Film and Video by Steve Wright
CD included with lots of images that can be keyed (No movie files, though)

The Art & Science of Digital Compositing by Ron Brinkmann
CD included with lots of images that can be keyed (No movie files, though)

I'll read through them in a couple of days
I'm suppost to write either something funny or meaningful here. But it's 1:49 am, and Im tired. So this is all you're getting for now.

steve wright's book is the best compositing book of all so far...and i have them all.
But it would be of use to the intermedite up compositor.
funnily there is no info on the whereabouts of steve or his website or anything

any way it's worth double the price imho.

I've just bought "Art and Science.." and I have to say, as a newbie, that it sounds like the bible of the compositors, I think it's a must have due to the fact it is quite general but faces certain arguments specifically and they suite for all software! Goooood.

    Hi

I've read The Art and Science of Digital Compositing, The Five C's of Cinematography and Painting with Light (The two last books were recommended by some user here)

The art and Science was really great and i can absolutely recommand it to everyone who wants to geat an undesrtanding of Digital Compositing. It's Plattform free, it covers everything from the very basic image mainpulation tasks to highly complex compositings. I am more from the 3D Corner and always felt a bit uncomfortable with Compositing programs. I swear, after I read this book and understood what this programs do, i never had any Problems anymore.

The Five C's and Painting with Light are great also (painting with light is funny to read, its from the 40ies i think) but are not really related to compositing.

    Greetings Markus

I know the online version, and it'a a nice and handy document, but far from being complete. It's really just a few samples from the book. If I were you, I'd go out and buy the real thing - it's worth every single cent. All that aside, I just don't have the online version sitting on my hdd anymore - sorry...

Many are recommending this book. So, it's better to get it.

Is there any other book you recommend?

    regards, rohit

I'm about to buy a book called "visual effects for film and television"
Anybody read it? I don't know if it's advanced enough, some books only cover things you can figure out by yourself and that is not what I want...

Yes! Today I received my copies of 'Digital Compositing for Film and Video' and 'The Invisible Art'.

They both seem to be really excellent books, and while the first one is packed with rather technical information (actually, it's going to make me dream about pulling mattes!), the latter provides some great insight into the world of matte painting, both new and old.

Those guys were (and still are) so incredibly talented artists!

Funny enough, one of my favourite images from the book is from Spartacus, and just today they showed it on the tv, so that I could have a looksee for myself.

Anyway, I don't regret a single penny I paid for those books!

    Ok. Back to reading...
