  1. #1 Shot/process advice?
Being new to this field, I need some advice please...

We're currently planning a short and need some help determining the best way to go about doing a certain shot. Its kind of a personal project so we have plenty of time, and want to use it as a learning experience.

In our shot there are three men in a field standing around a computer. The shot is a 360 steadicam movement several times around. (it is spoofing the printer scene in Office Space). In the background there is an ambulance that has a logo on the back and side. I just want to get some advice on what some of you think is the best way to seamlessly replace the logo on the ambulance in this shot with a new logo. Like I said I've never really done this before.

    Here's my Idea...
1: Film the shot with tracking points on the ambulance.
2: Perform 3d Motion tracking with 3rd party program
3: create a 3D plate with the new logo on it
4: Roto the foreground (actors) so the logo stays behind
5: color correct for a natural look

Is this about how it should work, or am I WAY off?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Maybe a weird suggestion but why not put another logo on top of the original one in the ambulance? If it's in the background there's a good chance you won't see it anyway if it's slightly different than the original one. If you can get permission to put tracker marks on it, you can also put a 'logo poster' on top of it.

But if you WANT to do it in post, the method you describe will probably be fine. But I would do it real life if possible at all.

We discused just covering it with a different logo. Since its not our ambulance (it's borrowed), it would have to be something that is temporary, but we want it to look as real as possible. It won't be far away enough to disguise the edges of a banner or other item. Also, the new logo really looks very little like the original. Different color, different artwork, etc. So we kind of voted that down.
But thanks for the response. I just needed to make sure that I wasn't off in left field with my understanding of the process.
