Hey, I've finally gotten Apple Shake v2.51 to work in Vista after weeks of troubleshooting but now I instead got a GUI problem. See image:
    http://www.style-productions.com/daniel/shake.jpg

I've tried the system variable "NR_OPENGL_RENDER 1" which does fix the GUI apperance but instead makes the GUI extremely slow ie. if I would for example try to zoom in on an image in the viewer it would take a couple of seconds to render instead of fluently zooming in.

Something else that might be relevent, I've a NVIDIA card (8800GTS) so it's not a ATI-problem.

Yes, I tried disabling the second monitor but it's still the same.

well, shake 2.51 is pretty old (ancient so to say). So i don't think you can expect it working flawlessly on every new os that comes around. Maybe it's time to either switch to a Mac or Linux system if you want to run (a more recent?) shake, or look into another compositing package if you want to use vista.

We use this version of Shake in my University, that's why I'm so persistent.
So if anyone got any suggestion or workaround, I would be truly grateful.

I used to have this problem with my very old graphic card. I changed it and it fixed the problem.
then i updated the graphic card again and now i'm getting the same old craziness.
My only work around is disabling the 2nd monitor BEFORE starting shake.
if you find a better way please let me know.

    There is no way.

Using that environmental variable is basically doing software rendered OpenGL as I recall. You are never gonna have anything fast with that method.

I hate to say it but using Vista is still poo poo. If you can I would switch back to XP. Vista is still relatively new and applications just don't like it. Especially an application like Shake 2.5 which was written long before Vista.

  12. #12 Question
Yes I know for Vista. Excuse me, I forgot to tell that i'm using XP SP2. I'll never use Vista cause i think it's a real bad "BUG"...... LOL.
I'm using ATI and can't use NVidia, because i have a laptop.
Download and install new drivers don't fix the problem.
I'm searching another solution but for the moment i can't find it....
For real, there's no way to resolve it ?

there is pretty much no way to fix it. as people have said... it may have something to do with the fact that opengl in vista is emulated.
you're either going to have to dual boot XP and vista or find a new compositing program unfortunately!
have you tried running it with windows xp compatibilty settings?

  14. #14 Question
I'm only using XP and not Vista cause i don't want it.
The problem is linked with the dual screen, and i can't find a way to resolve it.
I can't use an another soft, because i'm working actually on a production where everybody use Shake, but on windows xp. We can't use a linux station...
I'm sure there's a solution, but what is it ?

Then I think you should start another thread instead of discussing this in someone else's that is supposed to be about Vista issues .

As has been stated before try disabling your second monitor and see if that fixes the issue at hand.

Also you might not find anything to solve your issue. You are dealing with an extremely old version of Shake. Windows XP has had countless updates since 2.5 first came out so something might have changed that affects Shake.

I'm sorry that you are stuck with Shake 2.5 however you have to realize that you might never be able to solve this problem. Using such an old version as 2.5 is bound to bring up issues.
