    hey,
im new to these forums and this is my first post so i just wanted to introduce my self first.
anyway I am using shake to remove about 8 tracking markers from a shot that involves a simple pan down. i chose to shoot a clean plate and then use the autoalign and reveal technique with a quickpaint node. during the actual pan everything cam out great, there is no sizzling or visible strokes at all. i would say the pan lasts about 150 frames all of which i painted frame by frame. the first problem i get is when the camera stops moving. since my strokes using the reveal brush aren't always the same the plate starts to "sizzle" with the varying strokes. i would just move from frame by frame painting to persist, except for the fact that the tracking markers become obscured by the actor and the shadow that he casts. my clean plate doesn't have any of the shadows on it so i am forced to switch from using the reveal brush to a clone stamp which also creates issues with sizzling and problems. i have done some searching and racking of my brain trying to figure out a way to clean up the mess i made with the last 250 to 300 frames but i just cant seem to figure it out. in all honesty my real issue is time since this is for a class project which i am responsible for everything in the shot and i really didn't have time to spend a week painting out 420 frames by hand. anyway any suggestions or tips are greatly appreciated. thanks

    Welcome to VFXtalk MRPOWER

    Ok...
Are your 8 tracking markers on screen for the whole shot or do they come in and out of frame? I would never try to remove tracking markers with the QuickPaint node. I would only use Quickpaint if the markers were on a greenscreen.

It would be much easier to track some roto to the markers and reveal back your clean plate with this roto, you won't get any edge boiling then. If your clean plate doesn't match up (e.g. not motion control) then your best bet is to use your clean plate to construct a still frame patch and track that over your markers. You will obviously have to reconstruct the actors shadow to go back over the marker, again it is better to use roto shapes than paint nodes to do this. Good luck.

    What he said ^

If you've got tracks, use an unchanging rotoshape to reveal the background through. I would only ever use QuickPaint as a last resort when there's too much movement, or too much change, and where you're not going to notice any flickering.

thanks for the advice, i had thought about that but i was deterred by the fact that the clean plate i had did not have a shadow. one more question though, how do i deal with the actors hand crossing over the markers? roto it out and then put it back on top of the new clean plate? and as far as using the rotoshapes to reveal the background im assuming an outside node would do the trick?
    again thanks for your help

oh yea, and i think 3 of the markers start off screen.

Ya I would just roto the hand back over. You can then put it altogether in a keymix node.

I would generally use paint for bringing the hand back over - reveal through the original hand, and then clone a bit to get the edges right. If you just roto the hand back, you're going to get a certain amount of bleed over the edges. Rotoing the hand back will either mean the bleed remains or you're eating into the hand.

It's one of those things where you've got to use a combination of a few different things...
