Hi all ...I have a quick question ...Well i have a scene with a camera moving and some 3d objects in different positions and because i would like to blend i little the 3d objects .I would like to introduce some realistic fog in the scene .I am a beginner in Maya dynamics but i know that there some presets in the visor.. I don't know If there are others better options for doing that but of course i would like to make something not to difficult but something really cool and realistic...

    Thanks

    Jose

    Hi Jose

Fluid are going to give you the best look for fog but you can use particle as well.
Do you want the fog to roll in or is it a static fog effect?

if it's static fog, then it's easier and faster to render. If it's like ground fog, eg: mist, then maya fluid will take a long time to render. Depending on how big the area that you want the fog to cover. If you want ground fog like mist, then you can use maya clouds to simulate that effect; however, careful settings will give you a really nice look. Too much settings and the fog will look bad.

I did ground fog for one guy and he wanted to cover the entire valley. I told him that it would take forever to render with maya fluid, and since his scene is already heavy without the fluid. He didnt' like the look of it. Some people think it's easy to create mist, but they don't realize how long it can take to render the scene.

    Thanks for the reply s...

I dont know ..what are the best approach but.. maybe i would like not static at all , i dont know if for example doing the maya with fluid with moving transforms node ( positions)..I dont know if maybe isnt to realistic...

.Yeah it is misc ..like ground fog ..I dont have specific scale ..but only i want to sell the shot...

    Thanks

Well you could make a static fluid contaner and use texture time to make the fog look like its moving. I'll see if I can post a scene for you with an example of what I'm talking about.

if u're in2 using Mental ray

    try Mib_ray_marcher or Parti_volume node

to get the best effect out of it...

yea ray marcher gives good results without a big render cost. if your doing a software render I have used volumetric lights.

if you only want static, reasonably uniform fog and you are familiar with compositing you could consider rendering out a zdepth pass then using that to create fog in post with shake or something similar- it's a lot more controllable that way and cheaper to render

i think fluids would be best, it doesn't have to be too high resolution just smooth interpretation between voxels. For a super Faster render you can also try Maya's Volume Primitives, then just add a cloud procedual to the color and transparency then animated the cloud attributes or translate the cloud. A little bit of both should do the trick. Then tweak the elements with a Zpass for saturation etc.

my name is lince.I posted this reply from India, kerala.
I have a better idea for adding fog, using lights.Inside the light attribute there is a fog option.use it and make a good out put.good luck

Never done it but in theory could be anything lime this:

    - render the zpass
    - In AE (After Effects) create solid, apply the cloud filter
    - Affect the zpass as differential mask

use a combo of a low res fluid to give your motion and then use the ray marcher in combination to get the good lighting effects that the fluid will not provide.

There are some interesting presets/scenes in the visor you could look at. There is a foggy ocean that I like to use for fog. Just delete everything except the fluid container.
