def agreed......wish apple would continue to develop it......sad really....if they would have put as much energy into shake development as they did into motion it would still be a top contender.

It's dirt cheap for the professional tools you get in Shake. 500 bucks.
You get primatte and keylight too!

It's a cheap way for people to learn node based compositing. The Docs are pretty good to get people started and there are a large community who uses/used shake.

You can buy shake with the latest version of Furnace for under 5000 bucks. That's around the same price as one seat of Nuke or Fusion.

everybody say shake is dead but lot of senior artists and companies still using, and Phyx Inc. Releases the EVO Collection for Apple Shake, so i think shake isn't dead because lot of people know shkake SDK and they update it,

Yep. Shake+FCP+a decent G5 is less than 5.000 bucks which makes it a small VFX solution affordable for freelancers like me.

Shake is dead?? I wish you would tell that to all the studios that persist on clinging to its rotting corpse...and switch to something like nuke or fusion. Actually I wish dead shake would do kinda a murder suicide with after effects.....can't wait till people realize how horrible that app is......anyone that says after effects is idle because its so much faster has never used nuke or fusion!

This is going to be an ongoing thing with you, isn't it?

Shake is still, EOLed or not, the most cost effective way to learn to composite (if you've already got the Mac hardware). It may be buggy, but if you can learn to use it, it'll be a piece of piss to transfer that knowledge over to Nuke or Fusion if you get a job working at a company that's got licenses. Are you really going to expect a student to buy a full license of Fusion or Nuke?

A lot of companies are sticking with Shake for purely financial reasons. They've effectively got unlimited free Shake licenses, and, while they understand that Nuke will save them money in the long run, they can't justify the added expenditure at the moment.

So what about apple ? They want to sell Motion ? Like autodesk, close combustion and want to sell toxik, so apple thinks like that ? I think Shake is already good, fixing some bug and updating is not too hard, what they want to do ? Changing shake name to Phenomenon or create new product ?

An ongoing thing with me? If you mean an ongoing desire to be more efficient and work faster than yes it is. I have been using Shake since ver 1 on Irix....so yes, I know how to use it just fine....when it was ported to mac it was done incredibly poorly and it runs like crap....the linux ($5,000 version) runs amazingly and is a great app...but if you are going to drop that kinda cash on an app you might as well get something that is supported and has been updated in the past year......instead of 5 years ago.

Why is it so aweful that I prefer not using an application that is out of date and incredibly innefficient....does that mean I don't use it if thats what a facility has...no, does it mean I would prefer to use something else....yes, but it doesn't matter, I use what is available to get the job done...I just wish they would either update it, or give it up altogether!

Naw, I just love what I do and I don't like being hindered by sloppy programming. I'm also a firm believer in looking forward and embracing new technology and techniques. In my opinion you can save a few grand having your artists use something like shake...but that is not at all forward thinking. That means each artist on each job is going to be slowed down....so maybe over a 3 month project you will add say 3 to 4 days to each artist just in render and wait time because you refuse to move to a faster solution like nuke or fusion.....well that means each project you are wasting an additional $1500-$2000 per artist per job! Doesn't sound very economical to me.

The shop i'm currently at has shake and nuke....they don't have keylight for nuke so I occasionally go back to shake for it.......I was able to render out 3 nuke scripts and also work on another in the time it took to render 1 shake script! Topple that with the fact that the farm is not rendering shake for some reason, so all I can do is render locally = big waste of time....as a matter of fact I needed to do cleanup on a shake shot so I render the elements and brought it into nuke to finish so I could get it done in time!

Clinging to the past just because of a percieved value makes no sense to me...and don't give me the whole there are more shake trained artists out there.....as a professional it is your job to be up to speed on modern software.....in my opinion you can either adapt to change or find a different carreer!

shake is too slow than nuke or fusion ? In my experience it's just a bit slower than nuke, and if it slow and old or dead, why the big and small vfxhouses still using it ? Only about money ? There are some senior artist sill use shake and says, shake is featured

Again tho, are you referring to shake on Mac or Linux? It works great on Linux....it is a nightmare on mac....and mac is where to affordability factor comes in. But again even dealing with the linux version there is still the lack of support and the knowledge that there will never again be any advancements to the software.
