This is from the HighEnd2D Mailing list ...

    >Dear Shake Customer,
    >
    >Recent announcements from Red Hat have caused some concern for us all.
    >After speaking with many of you, we have found that, for the most part,
    >our customers and other vendors are not interested in migrating to a

    >Linux solution from Red Hat. Therefore, our course of action at this
    >time is
    >to migrate to Red Hat 9 since this is the predecessor for both Red Hat
    >Enterprise and the Fedora project. The next release of Shake will have
    >Red
    >Hat 9 as the required Linux operating system.
    >
    >We hope this information will assist you in your facility planning. For

Much as I regret to say this, but it seems that the turn of events, or rather, the rise in the number of sales on behalf of Apple, seems to prove them right...

    Read here: http://www.digitalvideoediting.com/c..._twff_1604.htm

I really don't like Mr. Jobs' politics...let's sack him together with Master Gates and send 'em off to some really remote place without any electricity!

Oh yes, lest I forget: put SCO in with the flock and have them gone!

    LOL, I see...

Just to get things straight: I don't have anything against Macs per se, but just like Paul said: way to pricey.

And Mr. Jobs' bizz politics are just not up to my taste...

I'm gonna buy me some nice, old ZX 81, or a VC20 - or dust off my old Atari 600 XL...

Now I get to sound like a Mac Zealot...

I agree that Apple shouldn't cancel there support of Shake on Linux, and yes that would probably terminate the future of Shake in the industry, but it is my understanding that for the same price of the Linux licensce you can purchase a new apple and a licensce of Shake. I guess this is Apples way of leveling the playing field...on the other hand you could just say that Apple is charging double what they should for the Linux copy

Anyways, unless I am wrong, in the past Apple has made nearly 90% of their profit on hardware sales...they need to sell a computer with the software and at a higher price to continue on. I would say that they are attempting to offset this by expanding with other stuff like supporting Linux versions of Shake and selling ipods with itunes mp3 sales to a PC user base...In some ways I doubt they will drop support for Linux and Irix and am not to worried because it is a financial diversity. Politics? I don't know .

Cool, with that said I would gladly purchase a license for Linux and look forward to using it in a professional environment!

ignorance is bliss and for the PC well I work on the shite all day and I can tell you something simple will end up crashing the box and causing five other people problems. A mac well what is the problem except a price? Remember what your mom told you! You get what you pay for and it is as simple as that.

Are you trying to say that Macs don't crash?

Mac is a workstation not a consumer computer, and I hate when people try to compare a cheap consumer pc full of bells and whistles or a home made frankstein to a Mac with two or three apps installed, try to compare with a Dell or HP Workstation the ones who costs the same or maybe more then a Mac.

I use them both, and they both have their glitches, PCs have a huge advantage with 3D applications tho, Macs in the other hand still crawling in that segment.

    See ya!
just another node in the tree
