COMMENTS: basically i cut up the scene, so i could add things like new bridge, mountains, fog, and footage at the beach wich was also shot during the day. retimed clouds twice as fast. after stabilizing, i put the motion back in, with a camera move. not much else to say about what i did. i would like to hear your comments. thanks for the votes! oh ya, sorry for the poor compression.

COMMENTS: I first tried tracking in AE, but the results weren't as good as they could be, so I broke out my trusty copy of Icarus v 2.09 (which still works under 10.3.2 - yay!). Nearly perfect everytime. After stabilization, I did a levels call to seperate the bridge from the sky, used that for an inital luma matte, and seperated the sky, bridge/land, and water into their own layers. I then replaced the sky with some stars as well as layers of clouds that were actually shot in my backyard. Color correction was an ongoing process since I was relying on AEs transfer modes instead of doing serious alpha work.

One place I did do a bit of alpha work was when adding the city lights back into the scene. Various reference pictures were cut up and aligned in their respective places. An alpha matte was assembled, and just the lights plus a bit of their glow were extracted and laid over the original footage. The reflections on the water were made in a similar fashion. The thing that took the most work was the positioning of just over 100 lights on the bridge. If I knew it would've taken as long as it did, I would've used an alternative approach.

I was going to add a bit of camera shake back into the image, but since there isn't much motion in the scene, I think it works better as a locked off shot.

    SORRY FOR THE LATENESS....
    Storm
    Combustion 3

Have worked on this bit by bit over the last few weeks, usually only an hour
    at a time
and feel happy how it has developed as it is my first real attempt at
    compositing.

Cheers to all who have a peep
    and all comments welcome.

Best of all I learned heaps and even though looking at it now can see
possible enhancements that is always the case.
