I've read plenty of threads on here and other places about NUKE vs. Fusion. That isn't my question as they both are good at different things I'm sure.

I'm more interested on what program should I learn? I'm enrolled at fxphd taking some classes and thinking about adding a node compositor course. Currently I've used AE for all my comping but I'm moving to L.A. this year and thought I need to learn a node base compositor.

It seems most people I've talked too recommend NUKE. As does Stu founder of The Orphanage.

I'm primarily a matchmover but as I said I've done some comping in AE.

What path would you guys chose? This thread is not intended to start any programing bashing so hopefully it can be handled at a professional manner.

    I appreciate any responses,

    Josh

Thanks gentle for the response. If I had apple no doubt I wold already have Shake. Sorry forgot to mention I'm on a PC.

I've seen some videos of NUKE and Fusion and I must say Fusion looks a lot more intuitive but I heard so many good things of NUKE and its future.

The tool doesn't make the artist.

If you can prove you can do great work, you're in.

most i talked to liked nuke more than fusion but said fusions good with particles. so id go for nuke on an overall basis with fusion on the side. Currently i use Shake at work though so...im sticking with it for now.

Start with one, and then learn both. Once you have mastered one it isn't too hard to master the other. I personally prefer Fusion.

    I vote Nuke.

    Love Fusion though.

I think I'm going to take the Fusion class and download the VPN. Then I will download PLE of NUKE and watch the free 8 introductory course on thefoundry website by the fxphd teacher.

    Wish me luck .

If ur joining fxphd then go for the fusion courses. Both their courses specially the level 1 beginners course is awesome.

    Nuke course is good too.

    Gd luck

i agree with the idea of picking both on fxphd

but i can't understand the voters, noone has asked joshfilms what kind of projects will he typically work on... film? commercial? SD? 2K?

let's imagine that you go into a diy shop and you ask for a screwdriver
    the shop assistant answers:

    - here you are (= pick Nuke/Fusion)

    - what size? flat? crosshead? torx? (=what would you like to use it for?)

    - here is a toolbox full with screwdrivers, you can rent it for a week, then come back and say wich one you really need (=recommending fxphd)

i started with fusion (and it is still my personal favorite) but then i had to switch to shake and now to nuke and i must say: if you know what your doing you can switch to a new programm in about a week. after that you'll able to do most of the work by yourself and for the special tricks ask one next to you
