I've been trying for days now to find a way to convert MKV files into something useable with FCP, AE, nuke (or any software that will allow me to edit the clips together for a high res demo reel)
I've tried various programs like avs video converter, virtualdubmod, SUPER, OJOsoft MKV converter as well as other crummy looking apps. (windows and osx) none of these are able to get the job done.
Does anyone have any other suggestions they could give me? other than frame by frame screen captures... that will be my last resort.
    any input is appreciated
    thanks

Have you tried using TSmuxer to demux the h264 stream from the mkv?
I think that's how I achieved it before.

mkv usually uses x264, so it is open source, there has to be a demuxer made specifically for it.

You could use MKV2VOB to convert it to an mpeg, then use mpeg streamclip to convert it to anything else.

    Thanks for the help guys!
I tried TSmuxer, but that didn't really help very well. But after using MKV2VOB and alot of trial and error, I think it will work out.

    cheers mates

    Try:
VLC(last release on www.videolan.org). This is not only a player. You just open file, then select transmit stream to file. Don't forget select video/audio codec, bitrate.
VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2. - this version work properly with mkv files.
