Are you a full time or contract employee? What software do you use, and would you prefer to be fulltime if you were contract, and vice versa?

To answer my own question, I'm a freelance/contract compositor who works primarily on discreet FFI systems, with Shake compositing where-ever needed.
I'm currently a student, but have done some unpaid work using After Effects, as well as using Boris RED.
Hoping to get work doing freelance work when I graduate this summer.
I'm a contractor .. and after the last two days, I don't think I will ever be again?
Don't ask, but we're hosing off the lawyers ...
I'm kinda a Jack of all Trades when it comes to software ... most experience in AE and Combustion, but have and can use Commotion and Flame systems. Also do a LOT of Photoshop - matte painting is kinda my bag - I love itAlso do some Animation and Dynamic Maya work when needed.
*sigh* I want more film work :emotion:
im a parttime student / full time worker (in a different industry)...not YET working in the industry...but i am teaching myself Combustion...and would sell my left nut for a VFX job...
Cheers![]()

well...considering the potential gentic qualities of the contents of my left nut...id have to accept nothing short of, say, 1 billion dollars![]()
and your job...give that one a miss![]()
Contract employee having done a majority of my work in Fusion. I have also done some tv stuff in After Effects. I want to check out and learn Nuke cause I dont like to turn down work :-)
Im a contractor, although am working in a full time position for the next 5 months. Figure i'd see how the other half lives.
Normally using shake or combustion...although got to use nuke for a few months end of last year. It made me dream of bunnies and kittens.
I work full time. The freelancing doesn't provide constant income
I am a Full Time Worker, working on Shake, Nuke, Combustion and Fusion. I have almost completed compositing work on these softwares for more than 60 movies. But I would also like work as a freelancer if I get something.
I would say i am generalist. Maya for 3d, Shake and Fusion for compositing. I love creature modeling, texturing and lighting nothing is better than that.
hmm ... same here.. and i'm from Melbourne. It's hard to get into the industry here isn't it.. damn.
I am a fulltime employee in IT and part time designer in web, graphics and 3d. Have started my own company recently and doing freelance work parttime. Experienced in maya, 3dmax, photoshop, illustrator and flash. Still learning animation in maya and vfx, compositing in combustion. I love selflearning because not enough time to enrol in a full time course in an institute.

The main reason for a good job in animation, games or vfx industry is to have a good eye catching demo reel. It doesn't matter how well or how many softwares u know or what degree or diploma u have. U gotta have a good reel. Someone from the animation industry in Melbourne told me once that most companies get around 20-30 demo reels per week. But most of them end up in the bin. U have to make a good demo reel of say 3-4 mins with the best work of urs in the first 1 1/2 mins. Otherwise designers who view ur reel won't even be bothered to look at the whole demo reel. They will quickly rush through it and throw it away.![]()
