I've read numerous forums stating that Nuke is the chosen choice for desktop compositng in big visual effects houses. My question is, is Nuke going to live or die like Shake? Nuke appears attractive and I might convert from Fusion IF Nuke has a promising future. I don't mind learning a new package when it's critical to know in the industry, but doing so is time and money. That's why I am concerned if it's a good investment.
(Especially when you have to pay 1,000 annually for maintenance.)

    Thanks

Yeah, Nuke is going to stay. How do I know? I don't. But if people 5 years ago asked the same question about Shake, they would now know it's perhaps not dead, but on the way out.

Don't know if the question can even be answered. Will I die tomorrow?

Well all software is going to be replaced by others sooner or later since technology is growing at an extreme rate, even those big autodesk compositors are going to be replaced by smaller, more powerful applications in the future. Time will tell, but I do hope Nuke will be a long lasting application, long enough so my investment will pay itself off.
Nuke seems to be the choice over Fusion so might as well go into that direction if I wanna work at the big post houses. (Not saying that Fusion isn't used in big post houses.)

    Hi Digital M

I took a look at all your other posts on the Fusion Forum, there seems to be a bit of a common point to many of them (cash).. It looks like you have come to the right place now, so lets try to get to the bottom of it.

Your question seems to be a repeat of the Fusion forums posts about Nuke's future and value. You have posted that Nuke is too expensive on several occasions but not much so far about the tools, benefits, or the joy.

I think we need to get you some good information about the tools benefits and joy, and this will help.

If you have got any concerns about the value of Nuke maintenance, or the posts you have made about Nuke, I would be very happy to discuss this with you off thread... Send me a PM to bailey@thefoundry.co.uk and I will make sure you have all you need.

If you would like a copy of Nuke to try, then mail me and we can get you going with a full evaluation and some tools.

Mail me and we can get you Nuke, or NukeX (soooon), and put your mind and your wallet at ease.

    Mike

For a hobbiest yes nuke is too expensive.....but $1000 a year is a steal considering 2 clean up shots will pay for it!

I have to say Nuke pays it self on the very first job you deliver that demands it's features, in the worst case scenario if most of the stuff you get are low budget it will pay for it self in less than a year.

And keep in mind that Nuke here is almost twice the price and most films don't even get near of having a Hollywood like budget.
