Here is a little tut to use QMaster to render Nuke scripts and to use the full power of a 8 core macpro:

    http://vfxvault.com/tutorials/Tips/T...master_Web.mov

    Advantages in using QMaster are:

    - Batch several scenes to render
    - Re-render from old batch list
    - Use full CPU and cores of Mac Pro
    - Setup a farm of machines

    Hope it helps

    Good luck

Awesome! Finally someone that can quickly and concisely outline Qmaster! It really does work quite well for people not needing the power of a full farm, but looking for a more capable solution than what is offered per application.

Works extremely well for Maya, Compressor jobs as well.

I wasn't able to find that Nuke render applescript droplet on the site?

For those interested, I have something very similar to it to fire off Maya renders in the command line. I have actually found a way to build in email notification etc. in my own personal version, very useful, but isn't really much of a queuing system at the moment:

Thanks Hugo! Hope everything is well with you.

Going to try this out right now!

    /Oskar

EDIT: Didn't quite get it to work, is there anyone using Nuke6.v01 with Qmaster? The nuke instances won't start when i press "submit" and the render output folder is still empty..

Did I select the wrong nuke-executable? This is the path:

    /Applications/Nuke6.0v1-32/Nuke6.0v1.app/Contents/MacOS/Nuke6.0v1

    input path:
    /Volumes/Cache/projects/9255_Go_green/film3_paint04_v03.nk

    item path:
    /Users/oskar/Desktop/hugo_qmasterTest/test.%04d.dpx

    This is the "Command":

    /Applications/Nuke6.0v1-32/Nuke6.0v1.app/Contents/MacOS/Nuke6.0v1 -i-x/Volumes/Cache/projects/9255_Go_green/film3_paint04_v03.nk 1 100

What do I do wrong? :/

    /Oskar

EDIT2: I tried with my Nuke 5.2v3 version aswell, but same problem :/
    Path:
    /Applications/Nuke5.2v3/Nuke5.2v3.app/Contents/MacOS/Nuke5.2v3

aaand EDIT3: Seems to work now, the problem was i needed to put spaces between "-i -x input" ,duuh

But... the render time is almost the double with Qmaster than if I render the normal way through Nuke :/

Soo... I changed the number of instances from 2 to 4, and now the speed is pretty pretty good actually! I'm on a quad core Mac Pro, but it still seems to work with 4 instances without crashing!

By the way; does anyone know how to set up my Macbook Pro for use as a render node (slave) ?

    Cheers

    Glade it works now.
To put up the laptop , just install Qmaster node from the final cut CD (it is free) and put 2 instances on the laptop. Install Nuke render node of another Nuke if you have one.
Of course if you don't use scripting to relink all the paths of the media, then the laptop has to have the exact same paths then the Mac Pro.

    Hope it helps

    Okidok!

So I guess, to get the full speed I would have to copy all the files to the laptop before rendering? Or do you think the speed between my computers is enough? Using an ethernet cable between the mac pro and macbook pro.

I will read up on relative path linking (:

    Thanks!

Okey, I got it all to work, with incredible speed!

Altough... it skips frames :/ Of 479 frames, it only rendered 38. It seems to skip 30 frames or so, then render 2, then skip 30 frames, render 2, etc.

Steps and Minimum settings are both set to "1"

    Any ideas?

EDIT: I've played around with the Minimum-parameter, but it doesnt do anything about my problem, the maximum number of frames is always 38, when it should be 479 :/

    Good Afternoon,

Where can we find the template for nuke, and for a network of a couple machines what would you set as Executable.

If you have 2 machines that could render Nuke. Provided the Render Lic.

    Thanks for the time,

    mb
With some loud music + a friend to chat nearby you can get alot done. - but jezz, I'd avoid it if I had the choice---- If only real people came with Alpha Channels.......

    I got the same problem.

For 159 .exr images should be rendered, there are only 26. It rendered 2 frames and skipped other 11 frames, and then rendered another 2 frames and skipped 11 frames and so on....like 1,13,14,26,27,39,40,.....

The Step and Minimun parameters are both set to 1.

However the method did push all CPUs to almost 100%. Thank you hugo_guerra.
