    Hi All,
    I have a lot of clips that came directly out of the Canon HD XHA1 which are MPEG formats.
    I need to add them to a Nuke script. Since Nuke 64bit can't use MOV format, I wanted to know what format would you guys use?
    I am looking for the best "quality to size" ratio.
    I tried Tif and I got a file size of 130 gigs per minute of footage!
    Where as the .Mov was around 10 gigs per minute. But again, I can't use it.

    if you want uncompressed be prepared for huge files. Tif tends to be slow in nuke. EXR while huge in file size is the best to use since that is what nuke is built on. If you can output to DPX that is also a very fast format in nuke.

    Ok, thanks a lot. I will use the EXR. I noticed that the default compression setting is on PiZ? Is this even worth exploring or should I just use NONE?

    The default should be scanline zip. Which is the best to use. With no compression your files would be needlessly massive.

    Zip (1 scanline) will enable you to read exr's at the level of 1 scanline, so for example, if you zoom into the viewer so you can only see 5 scanlines, it will only process those 5 scanlines.

    Zip(16) will process in groups of 16 scanlines. This is one reason why exr's are preferable when working in nuke. It was built to take advantage of them.

    If you render out in 3d, you will prob want to use piz (which you may notice is zip backwards!)

    Hmmm, upon reading that Gravy i'm confused. It was told that zip was more suitable for grainy images, hence piz being suitable for 3d renders. My world is crumbling

    Piz 32 does compress higher. Thing is Nuke prefers zip1 files since it can randomly grab only the scanlines which are being used out of the file. If you compress it with zip16 or piz32 then it has to grab all 16 or 32 scanlines at a time.
